Albion v Whitby

Don’t want to take anything away from Whitby but boy did we make hard work of that in the end! Should have been out of sight during the first half but a mixture of great goalkeeping and being a bit wasteful meant we only converted 2 chances. Standout players for me were Josh Glover and Steve Foster. Josh is providing some real steel at centre half and Fozzy is giving us a cutting edge up top and working well with both the midfield and his strike partner.

Fozzy has had some stick on here but did very well not to react to some unsavoury provocation from the Whitby 2 & 4. He walked away following a clattering from the 2 who then proceeded to call Fozzy every single expletive known to man! Yes he did react when that spectacular own goal went in but personally, I don’t blame him one bit!

Was your favorite player not playing?

The Whitby lad had a dead leg, nothing serious.

What a mard mooney :stuck_out_tongue:
Foster goading the number 2 was lovely though

He left on crutches to be fair to him!

As I was leaving the ground, I saw him walking about OK without crutches. I believe it was a serious ‘dead leg’, according to our physio.

Another good 3 points. Fozzy really has given us something different and it showed in our build up play yesterday, his link up play was absolutely superb. Man of the match for me was the Whitby number 2 though!

Whilst its never as much of an issue when you win I thought the officiating yesterday was once again very poor. The refs eyebrows aside I can’t think of anything positive to say about the lot of them.

We had enough to get the win without (through injury or otherwise) Ben Harrison, Shaw, Connors, Hancock and Tuck in the starting eleven, which just shows how strong our squad is. The league is still ridiculously tight with very little between the top 10 or12 sides so having a strong 16 rather than a strong 11 could prove crucial.

The next two league fixtures are very tough and in the middle of that we have what’s looking like an increasingly tough trophy game vs skem. However if we can keep some sort of momentum going in those games we then have 3 very winnable games imo.

Great to see the attendance break 500, would be even better to see that sort of figure on a more consistent basis. The main stand looks much better with people in it! All in all (and without wanting to sound like a broken record) its a very good time to be a wittoner!

Going really well and appear to be learning no poor sides, relax, get caught out of position and there can be consequences.Going to need 500 or more though to avoid that bench !

Good win, good attendance especially with a few regulars missing. I also hope we can keep fozzy he seems to be what we have been missing so far this season. Agreed the squad is looking strong and with how tight the league is could prove to be vital. Another tought week ahead.

Great result yesterday the lads heads could have dropped but didnt. I was fearing the worst when they got their 2nd (flashbacks of kendal) but they stuck to it and got the 3 pointd they deserved.Got to say though i am concerned about the lack of clean sheets so far!!

a good result, but one which we made hard work of through a couple of moments of lack of concentration. but a good performance with real effort. i also must add that fozzie has added an extra dimension to our play and hope he stays with us for the rest of the season. the squad is now looking very good, with very good players coming in to replace injured players, and they themselves asking questions about being in the starting line up. oh what a joy to be a wittoner under pritch and the boys. we really can go places with this excellent squad and management team.

My first ever post!! Just to say what a pleasure watching the Albs this season has been. I remember people more knowledgeable than me about non-league saying ‘we’ve got to get out of this league’ and I used to think that one league up wouldn’t make much difference to either gates or the standard of play…I was wrong on both counts. The games are much more controlled and tactical rather than ‘kick and rush’ and we’ve seen some moves that would do credit to the Premiership. If we can keep the concentration going for the whole game ( as in Fylde away) then we can continue to thrive at this level. Saturday against Whitby I came away disappointed after a 4-2 win because of the chances missed ( and the very poor refereeing…) but that shows you how high the expectations are now.

Welcome to the forum! I agree, what has also been nice is that we have taken points off a few the teams that I imagine will be up at the top by the end of the season. Just got to make sure that we dont get complacent against the so called ‘easier’ teams and i reckon we are in for an exiting season!

Agree with most of whats been said already.Fozzy superb hope he stays.Josh Glover been knocking on the door all season he is superb. Against Fylde he was so good they had to take James Dean muuch vaunted centre forward off and again he was brilliant against Whitby on Saturday. However a special mention for Danny Andrews on Saturday. Two goals, a fantastic work rate, and aquiet unassuming lad with a nice family to boot an ideal footballer for our club as all the lads are but Danny sometimes does’nt get the credit he deserves!!. Think we missed Josh Hancock as well another who is a very underrated player. Hope he’s fit for Tuesday night. Again well done to getting over 500 through the gate. lovely to see lots of youngsters knocking about. A young lad knocked asccidentally against me at the bar Saturday and promptly apologised I asked him if he’d be back to watch and he said yes so hopefully we will get new young supporters joining us!! Great Stuff!!
Also like to say that the Whitby players who were in the club after were very polite and wished us well for the rest of the season apart from Feb 16 of course. Thats the thing with Non League so much better than watching the Prima donnas. at our level you get the banter and give and take it. I’m proud of our little club and the way we make friends far and wide long may it continue!!
Here’s hoping for a result at Hednesford against Macca get the beers in and the rest of his new team mates!! I’d love to turn them over but more important like to see us beat Skem and more money in the pot Saturday!!
Also got to say well done to our football management team punching well above their weight on what is one of the bottom six budgets in this league. I believe even Warringtoon town have a larger budget than us
SO Onward and Upward lets all keep pulling together even if it is frustrating sometimes!!
