Alex Brown

This thread is going off the point ( Alex Brown ) Can True Wittoners please post on the right threads ?

So has he actually gone? there is no mention on the bloods players list of Alex, really nice guy and would be great if he did/had stay(ed)

Alex has signed for Droylsden about 48 hours ago (which unfortunately came as no surprise)!

I have not got the inclination to begin another debate on his departure other than to say I rated Alex very highly as a player and felt that before his injury last season that he was the best midfielder in the Unibond (which is decent praise). I am extremely disappointed that after shaking hands on a deal to stay at the club he subsequently left, I think this was our of order, but clearly he has been advised to move on rather than stay.

I wish him all the best as I really liked Alex and would not wish to stand in the way of his progress, but am very annoyed that he went back on the verbal commitment he had made! He should have chosen to leave without making promises that he was going to stay.

All the best

Thanks Rabbit, cleared it up

No doubt Billy Vince will be on this thread soon, saying he knows better. If he does, please lets ignore him.

Alex presented us with some great footballing skills, and scored some very memorable goals along the way. It was nice to see him at the Leek Town v Fleetwood match near the end of the season, supporting Leek, who came very close to doing us a favour. It was also nice to seem him amongst the fans when he was injured.

We will miss you Alex…hope you come and see us if you can, you will be welcome.

At least they will be on the new football manager for droylsdon

Oh no he won’t Thatched, Billy has been removed on grounds of boredom!

Regarding Alex signing for Witton, he did discuss a new contract and signed it knowing that there was a clause allowing him to leave if the manager left also. When Jim left, Alex spoke to Nigel regarding another contract, which if the first contract was binding he would gladly have signed another - he is only interested in playing football and not the politics as I’m sure is the same for all the players who have left.He would not have gone to another club in the Unibond, but was not prepared to miss the chance of playing at a higher level. Nigel was well aware of this situation.

None of you have an axe to grind with Alex and hopefully when he comes to watch Witton play which he no doubt will( as he also did at his previous club Leek)you will welcome him as a friend.

I am convinced he came back too early from his knee injury because he was desperate to make a difference. This I feel was one of many tactical mistakes Jim made while I watched the team. There were many times I cringed at his substitutions and the Fleetwood tactics were a disaster. I cannot understand why you thought he was a good manager. He was lucky that so many good players came together at the same time. Alex did not go to Witton because of Jim, he went because of the connection with Benny Phillips at Leek!

Oh well, can’t argue with that abrill, unless somebody else comes with an alternative.

Alex did not go to Witton because of Jim…

…there was a clause allowing him to leave if the manager left also.

So Alex didn’t join Witton because of Jim but he left because Jim left??? Was this a ‘clause’ that Alex asked to be included in the contract???

There is no huge axe to grind with Alex, a decent lad, certainly a fans favourite and a very good footballer. Most of the lads will be welcomed back, the disappointment as with the situation with Alex is the way it has been handled. In Alex’s case my understanding was that he shook hands on a new deal with Nige and that it was unconditional. It is a pointless debate now as he has decided to move on.

My concern throughout this process is why 10 first team players were allowed to leave so easily, this is scandalous management on behalf of the former manager (who appears to have had a hidden agenda) and the former Chairman who frankly was in ultimate control of this happening. The cost of this to the club in lost transfer revenue could be £30k, £40k, £50k (so no one will be getting paid back quickly for monies put in) and just as damaging is the fact that you have to start again with a brand new team.

The flip side of this is that we get to enjoy the process of Nige building his team and bringing in some potentially even more talented players. Nige has brought in 5 players that have already proven themselves above Unibond level. Those players that have departed have not proved themselves either at Unibond or above. The reality is that despite being an unquestionably talented group they failed to achieve promotion on two occasions! All the pretty football in the world accounts for little if you bottle it at the end.
