Another non league club in danger

"Kettering Town will play their Blue Square Bet Premier match against AFC Telford behind closed doors. Northamptonshire Police say Kettering have missed successive payment deadlines for policing costs to cover the game. A statement from the Kettering Town Supporters Trust reads: “[We] now fear that KTFC is all but dead. The two home games this week were to be the launch pad for the Trust to commence very serious money raising.”

If it were me, i’d try and get a double decker and park at the back, like at the old drill field.

ahh the drillfield that brings back memorys

anyone know what happened to it?.

I believe the club lost it and had to move elsewhere. Im sure they learnt their lesson though

Worst thing about closure of the DF (now there was a swamp!), was not being able to play footy on Chinkas in the winter evenings under the mis-aligned floodlights!

It was a swamp! I played in a pre season friendly for Lostock on it one August and my boot came off when I ran on to to pitch! (Don’t get excited, I never played for Lostock before or after that night, took me all my time to play in the Central Cheshire League!)

chinkers and the drillfield not much to choose between them both only fit for the V**s animals they used to train on chinkers as well.

Hey CJ lay off Chinkas - quality surface. Home of the Whalley Road Kin-Kan Wobblers! (Think I’ve got the name right)- and also second home for most youngsters off Witton Park and surrounds. Blood, sweat, tears and other bodily fluids expended down there! Any memories?

I once intentionally booted the ball into the river to waste time when we were winning a junior cup tie. Did no good, we drew 3-3 and lost the replay!!

i have memorys of the drillfield EC, run by friendly v#cs people always trying to make
visiting fans welcome :side: .
if i remember didnt their groundstaff paint the goalpost, RED AN WHITE one or two
times just to make us wittoners feel at home on derby day?.

I asked for memories of Chinkas! Not the Df!

And as for the painting of the ground red and white — lots of myth and bollocks, but you know who you are…bad boys

Was it “tin can” wobblers? My dad used to talk about them when we were kids, glad to hear he didnt make it up

I have many happy memories of “Chinkers” from Sunday kickabouts that started 5 a side and became 12 or 13 a side in no time, to playing on it in the Junior League for Lostock Boys Club, I think St. Helens Church Team had it as their home ground; then playing for Church Inn on it in the Sunday League. My final football memory was being roped in to Ref a Central Cheshire League game when I had packed in playing. It went well, I just said if I had any trouble I would abandon the game! The local refs secretary was so impressed by the report fron the two teams involved that he tried to get me to become a ref but I had more sense than to think I would get away with it twice!! Great days, great fun, better than sitting at one of these things!! See you V Skem. I am on the gate.

The only memory that I have of Chinkers is sliding in some dog s£&t. Wondering what it was and rubbing my hand in it!!!SBL

The dogs are still there!!
