Attendances

Ok so we are having a good season - infact a terrific season but I just happened to notice on this link:

http://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/attendances.jsp?comp=14

that our average gate has gone over the 300 mark for what I expect is the first time in 7 seasons?
We also have the small matter of a visit of Telford (which most other clubs have now had the benefit in their averages) which will no doubt boost it a bit higher still.

Something to be positive about anyway! ;D

Worth looking at our neighbours attendance record from the same link as well.

I think you should take great encouragement from this. Two years ago in Conference North we averaged about 650 at home, yet this season we are looking at around 1100 on average. Now obviously we have good away followings and a derby with Northwich partly to thank for that but it just goes to show you what a difference it can make once you get on a good run. I used to enjoy our games at Witton and I hope you continue your revival in fortunes. Perhaps events at your neighbours may assist you in a funny sort of way, but I’m not here to indulge in any schadenfreude.

I was about to say you get a better class of message board posts from Altrincham with use of words like schadenfreude, however you missed the ‘c’ out after the ‘s’!

Example of your increased crowds is a good one, I think in real terms if we could add another 150 on the home gates to about 450 average then this would be a first target - we need to get promoted first however!!! The challenge for a club of our size is that any increase in gate monies will probably only cover the rise in wages, our players are pretty low paid at the current time and almost certainly our wage bill will go up considerably if we make it to the CN. There are some, but not many, additional revenue opportunities that will come with promotion, hopefully increased local commercial support not least due to circumstances of of neighbours.

All the best for the remainder of the season.

Have added the "c"! You’ll have to bear with me it’s been nearly 10 years since I did A-level German now.

As we’ve found out in recent years, progressing as a club is a slow process but it has its rewards along with the peace of mind that comes when your club isn’t being run by a very wealthy, yet ruthless, businessman who keeps threatening to close the club down. Our debt is almost eradicated and at our AGM this week it was announced that the club had posted a small profit of around ?9k over the preceeding 12 months. Not bad when you consider clubs all over the country are running at a loss of literally millions each year - frightening stuff!

It’s little things that are happening at the club which encourage me. From next season the club will be running junior teams from young age groups following a link-up with local club Hale Barns Utd. They will now take the name "Altrincham F.C. Juniors" and this will create excellent links with the local community. The emphasis is as much about bringing the club to the youngsters and community as bringing players through the ranks. I think this is the way forward for clubs of our size and it will be interesting to see how this works out in the coming years.

Good luck in your quest for promotion and I will keep an eye on your run-in with much interst!

Cheers for now.

I used to attend Alty Grammar and got a great deal of stick for supporting Witton, but it was all good banter.

It can only be a good thing to be in the same league as near neighbours, and hopefully we’ll be up there soon. It’s always going to be hard for Alty with so many clubs nearby but they’re doing alright it seems - good on em.

This takes me back, I played for Hale Barns and Attended (wouldn’t say studied) at Alty Grammar. My form tutoe was none other than Fred Talbot!

I also got stick for supporting Witton, at the time Alty were the top non league side in the country with the likes of JD,JR, Stan and 'Cote playing for them.

If you went to Alty Grammar in the mid-90’s I think I remember you because I went there too. I certainly remember someone entering the Fantasy Cricket with a team called "Witton Albion F.C.". Was this you?

My uncles went to Alty Grammar at the time when Fred Talbot was teaching there and they always speak very highly of him.

I wish!!!
I left AGS in 1981 just after Spurs bt City - Happy days.

I don’t suppose the names Alan Whitfield or Keith Whitfield mean anything to you do they?

No sorry, I was in the year below Ian Brown.

Rob Law(son of The KIng) was in my form.

Bit of name dropping there!!!

Quite possibly - can’t remember that far back. My brother Jae was 3 years up from me.

Your bro used to work at Tesco?

Yeah he did for a while.
