Away Support

Apparently it has raised a few eye-brows that our away following has “dwindled” over the last 2 Saturdays.

Any theories on why this may be the case?

Possibly because money is tight for many people and an away game is far more expensive than a home game and the cost keeps going up due to the price of petrol. Might also be that the weather wasn’t too bad and the women folk demanded to be taken out instead!

More of a time based thing for me and my mates, up to the hour drive for away games is ok beyond this it gets to be an all days event and as WHS says her indoors needs time as well plus jobs to do so some of the trips whilst i would love to go are just too long for me and I guess others - for some of course it might just be a cost thing times are hard.

Plain and simple for me, money.

As a student, and a poor one at that, I’m going to have to pick and choose my away games this season. A sad state of affairs, especially given that away days are a much more enjoyable experience than homes.

Maybe we should put on a free bus and follow the example of the Vics!!! Seriously though away trips are enjoyable, mixing with the natives and all that, but they can be expensive so I guess its cost? SBL

I suppose the only consolation to this sad fact is that the club itself does not lose income as, (and correct me if I am wrong) the home team keep the gate money. Still it is sad that the team are not getting the extra support, but finances being what they are and for some time being at a premium I suppose it was bound to happen.

Its hardly a train smash is it? we’ve averaged between 50-80 at away games and a sight more at Chorley, thats more than some clubs in the league below get for a home game!

5 away Saturdays on the spin is quite a drain on resources and on time.

I think we should be grateful for the people who do go whether it be the occasional away game or most away games!

Well said Chad, you do speak sense sometimes :woohoo:

It is great when we have a good following at away days and I have actually been amazed by how many do go away in recent years and it really does make for an excellent atmosphere… shame we didnt have a few more at Ilkeston on Saturday as they had alot of fans singing so the banter would have been top notch…

All I would say is if finances allow and you can get there, or if you have never tried an away day then just go for it, its clear that the players and management appreciate it and it is often the 12th man!

3 points tonight please lads UTA

Barring FC United, can anybody name me a club that consistently takes more away than us across any of the Evo-Stik divisions? I can’t.

A poor away turnout for us is a fantastic turnout for 95% of the clubs in this league.

I cant speak for everyone but for me its earning enough brownie points from the missus  …and then having to spend the following days saying sorry to everyone :S

Seriously though the Witton away days are great fun especially on the coach and although i cant make it every week due to me doing Disco`s im going to try and get to many more this season…UTA
