Bamber Bridge vs Witton Albion

wasnt a good performance at all. At least lugsden was finally dropped. We were lucky 2 hold on, too much messing about at the back led to gifting them chances aswell as our midfield failing 2 close them down. We have a lot 2 improve on before the next game. Sorry 2 be negative but if nige and the boys walk away from today thinking that was good we will come unstuck. But greg smith was superb again!

To be fair the pitch didn’t help which should have had a mowing.May be our boys could not get used to a rather heavy pitch.

Careful Danny - u will have BIGBOB on your back:laugh:

Don’t care if we were lucky, it makes a change!!

Exactly WHS, Can’t believe how much bad luck we’ve had over the past few seasons.

It wasn’t just luck though today, the team battled and worked hard with Smith making some fantastic saves to keep us in it. Don’t forget we hit the post twice as well.

Well done Lads great result.

Early 90s, F.A. Trophy semi-final at Runcorn. Good performance, well on top but conceded 2 goals in the last few minutes. In the home leg we won 1 - 0 with another good performance. Outplayed Runcorn in each game, playing good football, but we went out and Runcorn went to Wembley.

The point is, good performances count for nothing, the end result is all that matters, particularly in cup games. Its great to watch good performances and nice football, but would you rather we played some great stuff today and unluckily went out?

Nige and the players are not daft, they’ll know what they need to work on, and I’m sure the long term aim is to produce a good footballing side that are successful on the pitch as well as producing good performances. At the moment, I’m sure we’ll all settle for just the good results.

In patches we played some good football and could/should have made more of the periods when we were on top. Their keeper could have gone for the penalty - but hey ho another refereeing mystery. We also could have added to our tally with Smithy hitting the post after the best move of the match and a sublime free kick (Willis) hitting the bar. That said in the final 20 mins we faded (again?) and we need to make sure we finish games with more impetus.

Bamber will feel hard done by and gave a very good account of them selves, but the result says witton won 2-1 and that’s all that metters.

Take the result, learn the lessons, move on

Ps hate the attempts to play in corners and waste time and run down the clock - it works against us more often than not.

Massively important result for us progression in a cup competition and monetary.

That is the one and only aim in this competition.

I noticed that there is £2 million for the winners, so I think Nige and Andy should go for it!

It wasn’t pretty and the team is still a work in progress but despite the negatives(possesion and being on the backfoot) we created the better chances.

Onwards and Upwards - Home draw please.

Very pleasing! Having spoken to Andy Nelson after thematch he wasnt chuffed with the way we played but in fairness I cant see that many other options for the team they had to start with given the injuries? Therefore everyone did their job accordingly.

The above link should show you all the results from yesterday - not sure where the N/S cu off exactly is but some potentially favourable draws in their - especially if we can get someone at home!

Just to reflect on 1 comment above (this is not a dig as I happened to have the same conversation with someone on the way home on the coach) Unfortunatley 300 people at £9 doesnt get us anywhere near £3000 net gate receipts.(we had 300 paying £9 it’d be a start.) To put it into perspective the bank holiday gate against Hednesford of 481 fell well short of the £3000 mark, well short - and FCUM aside that could be our biggest gate of the season? Thats how big £3000 in prize money is. As I say not a dig but just to highlight the importance of that win.

Witton v Bitton has a nice ring to it

Neil, 300 at £9 is close to £3,000 gross. But I accept the £3,000 we won yesterday is all profit and not to be sneezed at.
WHS.

It cretainly is, I just wanted to clarify the difference between what you said and for example our last home gate which was just over 300 but was no where near £3000 gross as some people seem to think having chatted with them.

Never mind that just look what we’d get if we got on the telly or even radio .

If we could get to the First Round Proper it would solve all our financial problems, especially if we got on TV.

mike i know what your sayin. But certain points need 2 be picked up on… Example the goal we conceded against ferriby, careless passing across the back 4 led to an easy goal 4 them 2 take the lead. We won 2-1 so we were all chuffed and moved on. We went on in the next game 2 concede an identical goal 2 hednesford which cost us the game. Guiselys 1st again was the same. Greg smith seems to be man of the match every game

Whilst you may have a point Danny, what do you want us to do whack it away or try to play some football? We are a Unibond team and we aill make mistakes, but I can forgive them if they are from trying to play a bit.
