A new era begins for Witton Albion on Saturday afternoon when Jon Macken’s new look squad kick off their pre season with a trip to neighbours Barnton AFC.
The close season has seen a complete overhaul of the playing staff, with only “Players Player of the Year” James Lawrie remaining at the club following relegation from the Premier Division.
A new squad has been assembled to face a different kind of challenge that awaits them, players who have worked with new manager Jon Macken in the past have arrived and will now want to put their own mark on the next chapter in the club’s history.
Barnton AFC have already begun their pre season programme with a 3-1 victory over a young City of Liverpool FC side and fully deserved their reward from that game. Witton’s new squad will take time to blend together but pre season will give them the opportunity to get to know each other’s game and enable them to work on things.
Pre season is just that, results are not important but build confidence and the main focus will be on fitness, looking at different players strengths and weaknesses and various aspects of the game.
Kick off at Townfield Lane is 3pm.
