1874 Northwich will leave Barton Stadium at the end of the current season and ground-share at Barnton from the start of the 2019/20 season. Current tenants Widnes FC are due to return to their home stadium after the Rugby League season finishes and the new 3G pitch is ready.
Could get interesting for the local residents who I seem to remember kicked off about and noise and parking from the increased crowds that NVFC brought to the village club. I am not sure what the agreed capacity of Barnton’s ground is, but if 1874 are half as successful there as they were last year, there could be some challenges ahead. My gut feel is that Barnton will not provide the platform for the sort of growth that 1874 supporters crave. That said, given that the new Womens Football development at Rudheath could be years away and with no firm agreement that they would be accommodated anyway, it looks like a move to Barnton was their next best option, especially if relationships at Winsford were becoming more strained as has been hinted at in a couple of threads…
In reality Barnton are a village football team . Perhaps 1847 are settling for that status also. Food for thought if 1847 continue their present form and are relegated Barnton will be the premier team UTA
Widnes FC are to return to their home town when they play Trafford FC on Saturday.
