Barnton v Reserves Sat18/11/06

Witton started well and deservedly took the lead on 15 mins when a good run on the left ended with a rash challenge giving Witton a penalty, which was then confidently taken by Mcdonough.
On 30mins the Witton keeper made an excellent save tipping a swerving free kick over the bar. Barnton equalised on 40 mins when a hopefull ball forward was misjudged by the Witton defence and the Barnton forward poked the ball past the keeper.
This goal against the run of play seemed to knock Witton out of their stride and Barnton scored again when a shot from the edge of the box managed to beat the Witton keeper giving Barnton a one goal lead at half time.
Witton must have been hoping to start the second half strongly, but notlong after the restart Barnton went further ahead when a shot from outside the box nestled in the bottom corner.
To their credit Witton tried hard to get back into the game and a shot from Kurtis Gill flew just over and a good move created a chance for Williams but the Barnton keeper did well to turn the effort round the post.
An amazing decision from the referee cost Witton a goal when trying to take a quick free kick the ball was blocked by a Barnton player, and to the amazement of both sets of players the ref allowed play to continue and it left an easy tap in for the Barnton striker when the cross came in from the wing.

Full Time : Barnton 4 V 1 Witton Res.
