Witton are on their travels again on Monday when they make the journey into the East Midlands to take on Nottingham-based Basford United in a re arranged Evo-Stik Premier Division fixture. The original fixture being postponed due to Witton’s involvement in the FA Cup earlier in the season. The two teams last met during Witton’s promotion season in the then Evo-Stik Division One South as it was before the system was re organised and the Albion completed the league double over Basford, winning both games 2-1 on the road to the Play off Final against Spalding United. Basford have reached the Evo-Stik Premier Division following their title-winning campaign last season largely due the goalscoring exploits of the prolific Liam Hearn, who was a major factor in achieving that aim. They now also have Nathan Watson, another formard who has also shown his goalscoring prowess at clubs like Coalville Town and was highly-rated by people. Prior to the start of the season Basford United were being tipped strongly to challenge for the Premier Division title if not actually win it but, inconsistency particularly away from their artificial surface at Greenwich Avenue has halted their progress somewhat. Their home form has been decent and they are the only team in the league so far this season, who haven’t drawn a home game - winning ten out of fourteen to date. Witton face another difficult test and they will be more than ready for it as they look to secure their eighth victory away from home. Kick off at Greenwich Avenue is 7.45pm.
