Has got up my nose a little with his letter in the Guardian yesterday.
Firstly he starts off about being a "Fellow Wittoner". The fact is Benny though I concede you do have a fondness for our club you are now at Bradford Park Albion and therefore your allegience is to them as we already know to our cost. The real fact is yourself, Wayne, Lee, and Griff have left us twice. I can forgive once but twice is a bit much though to be fair to you the money being bandied about must have been tempting give you needed a full time job.
You also mention introducing Jim to contacts at varios clubs. If you have that many contacts why do you keep coming back to us and raiding our players!!
You mention Jim not allowing you to take one last training session after you had resigned. I don’t blame Jim because I think we were preparing for the match against Hednesford at the time and he needed players to be focused not worrying about you saying bye bye and by the way lads there is a job for you and BPA!!
Another thing you say is that you and Witton will come into conflict again soon as you have earmarked players you would like. Benny if you are any kind of decent manager with a sense of fair play and love of our club you’ll go out and find your own players. Wayne is your chief scout so let him have a go. Sure if some of our players want to go thats different but ts not fair that you unsettle them however subtle.
[br]Posted on: May 31, 2007, 02:17:43 PM
Sorry need to add some more.
To sum up Benny you did a great job for us and I like you. You were always polite and would share a joke and a chat. I’m sorry you have gone and I understand your reasons. What I don’t like is that you still purport to be a Wittoner and stil continue to try and strip us of our better players. Leave us alone mate and show that you really are a great manager and build a team of your own players not ours. Also beware as we all know what can happen to clubs who have one millionaire putting the money in!!
Here here. To be fair Benny has proven that he is not such a fantastic manager by taking Wayne with him. Although I now understand why Wayne spent all last season with us rather than doing his job of "chief scout" - he was scouting our players for BPA! Either that or he really couldn’t be arsed. Both are equally likely.
It’s a cheap shot going to the Guardian as he did, Benny you made your bed…
Have fun in Unibond 1.
so that’s what the letter was about
and there I was thinking he’d written in appealing for our support in 2007/2008 (at Bradford of course). After all having acquired the nucleus of a decent UniBond 1 team for BPA they could probably do with a few more supporters.
Benny who ?
THE CHEEKY SOD.
seen him in northwich on wednesday
You may have seen Benny around town as he is actually still selling our golden draw tickets for the sponsorship.
That’s a complete Joke and makes the club look very silly. First Jim criticises Benny in the Guardian, then Benny returns the favour, and now we’re sending him out representing Witton Albion in the local community??
Benny Phillips needs launching as far away from this club as possible.
What possible good can come from him still having any association with Witton Albion Football Club? None.
Didn’t mean to stir things up as I like Benny and I can’t blame him for going to Bradford as I know he needed a full time job. The thing that really gets me is that he highlights that he has football contacts which he obviously does have, yet is trying to recruit our players. This is unsettling for them and our club. So I agree he needs to stay away and he needs to build his own team. It also really annoys me when people walk away from us twice. I hope these people realise what they are missing that they are no longer associated with the greatest non league club in the country. On a more positive note its good to see Jim moving positively and getting some good signings on board. Lets hope he can get another striker preferably a more physical one,and a wide player to compliment our squad.
Got to be honest I thought Benny was a decent 2nd man but not a good manager (thought the game against Leek proved a point when he took charge and we played just like we did when he was in charge, get a lead and try to cling on) as for our ex chief scout known him a long time since he was a frustrated sunday league player who thought he should have played higher and see the same now as a scout/coach/assistant thought he summed himself up a few years ago when grilled about our youth set up and he replied "I wouldn’t want my son playing for Witton I want him to be a damn site better than that"
