Best game at Wincham park

Seen as there is talk of us leaving Wincham Park I just wondered what peoples thoughts were on the best game seen at both the Central Ground and Wincham park ?
Funnily enough both my games involve the FA Trophy,
For me at the Central Ground I’d say the game against Yeovil would come out on top, if memory serves me right we won 3-1 and a certain John Bishop scored a header at the Gladstone club end.
At Wincham Park it has to be the semi final against Kidderminster, having been beaten in the first leg we won 4-3 with a Jim Mcluskie header in the final minute of extra time. The euphoria around the ground when that goal went in is something that will live with me forever and to see 3500 packed into the ground that day was amazing. Unfortunately we lost the replay a few days later but that only meant our trip to Wembly was delayed for twelve months.

Wincham Park only - Got to be the Kidderminster game. Amazing game. (the downside was travelling back from Stafford after the replay - absolutely and totally gutted).

Has that game ever been recorded on DVD?

being on motd against bolton in the fa cup was a thrill but what about beating gateshead 5-0 aet in the bob lord trophy after losing the first leg away 3-0.but my all time favourite was in the fa trophy when we were top of our league and gloucester city were top of theirs and we beat them 3-0(2 up in first 5 mins)and brought a lot of fans and were very gracious in defeat.just one of them games that will live long in my memory.

Not sure about that, my mate has a VHS tape of the Halifax FA Cup away game which I think was the season before. Makes you realise how much technology has moved on since the beginning of WP!

Kiddy for sure is the greatest ever witton game I’ve ever had the pleasure of attending home or away. Yes marine aaway was pretty special but that last min jimbo header and the ensuing pitch invasion will live long in my memory. Lodgy running on in his suit is an image ill never forget. In my opinion the greatest game played by the greatest ever witton team. UTA

^^ every word!!

kidderminster is the best game i have ever been to any where, how about witton 2 macc 1 in the 93 fa trophy. 2nd replay one nil down going into injury time and brendon burke scores twice, our best football performance was witton 7 whitby 2 under JV (the lying g!"£$%^&$), we played football so good that day that some football league clubs wouldnt of lived with us

As a more recent convert to the true cause, reading all these posts about big games and sell out crowds makes me more than a little jealous! So to bring things down to earth, my favourite has to be a game around New Year or Boxing Day, maybe against Leek?? ( my memory for games is not great) But we were 2-0 down at half time and won about 5-3. I seem to recall Lee Cox having a storming game down the right wing. Does this spark any memories? It was a fantastic turn around and an unbelievable climax.

I have a copy of the entire game on VHS, your welcome to watch

I haven’t got a VHS player any more - hence the question about a DVD. Thanks for the offer though - much appreciated !!

I think you can get VHS converted to DVD easy enough, I have got most games recorded at that time but not that one ? strangely one of my favourites WP games was coming back from 3-0 down vs Congleton to win 5-3 but yes been some great games, best away game Colchester or Marine FAT hard to call ? and favourite one from Central ground was v Altrincham (I think help - Chad ) but more importantly Dave Carrick scoring a brilliant overhead kick from outside the box at the angle I was only young and it just stayed with me - what a player He was ! and just maybe my favourite goal and player ever. UTA

Colchester was the best away day of my life as a wittoner as we were massive underdogs, though Marine runs it close. Remember us being penned in at Colchester’s old ground under the barbed wire. Then…Joey, Joey Connor! We must have took at least 500 down there what a day.

I think I’m going to show my age here, as well as my much more recent conversion to Witton, although I’ve still been a fan since about 2000 by my reckoning.

The best game I can remember at Wincham Park is a very recent game. The pure dominance we showed when beating Farsley FC in the play-off semi-final to win 3-0 is the best one for me. They were the only team in the play-offs that season that I was worried about playing, following our regular season games, and following the final whistle I knew that Curzon wouldn’t stand a chance on the Saturday.

If we are also going down the away games, the play-off final at Curzon obviously stands out, as does the FA Trophy game at Stamford under JV. That was easily the best atmosphere at a Witton game I had encountered at that time, and hasn’t been beaten many times since. It was a fantastic, and long, day out.

After everything I have heard from many Wittoners, I wish I was old enough to have been to the Central Ground and experienced that part of this magnificent club’s history.

Lots of great memories but my favourite happened at the Drill Field when we beat Vics 6-1.

My best away game has to be the win against Wycombe Wanderers in the quarter-final of the FA Cup in 1991/92 season, especially considering a few weeks later they thrashed us 4-0 in the league. The team coach stopped at an off licence not far from Adams Park, and emptied every shelf in the shop.

I can still remember Derek Shirley and Doug Lloyd dancing some sort of jig across the pitch when the final whistle went.

Nobody sat down on the coach, …it was just singing and dancing all the way home. The best was still to come, as when we pulled into the car park at Wincham, we were met by a huge crowd of supporters, and the celebrations went well into the night.

I think you mean FA Trophy Thatch, but that cup run was magical, more please Witton.

Yes TT that was a good one too, we seemed to have lots of great days about that period.

Colchester away was the best. Final whistle one of their fans ran on the pitch towards our “pen” and got done in by one of the police dogs!! nono

I seemed to remember we got battered for 85 mins then Joey C nailed them with two beauties :goal :goal

It was when we had money to burn.

wasn’t this thread about the best game at WP, not everywhere else too???
