Best Team?!

Just a thought; but for those who were watching Witton last time we won the NPL, what would be your Dream Team made up of players from that squad and the current one??

Mason/JK?
Cuddy/Pritch?
Lloyd/Lodge?
Warlow/Thomas?

Would be interesting to see who people would select!

I would go for the following. Baring in mind i was about 10 so my memory might not be spot-on!!

GK - Mason

RB - Gary Stewart
CB - Pritch
CB - McNeilis
LB - Brownhill

RW - Peers
CM - Grimshaw
CM - Lloyd
LW - Joe Connor

FW - Warlow
FW - Karl Thomas

Subs
JK
Cuddy
Anderson
Alex Brown
McCluskie

My team would be:

1)Keith Mason
2)Gary Stewart
3)Liam Brownhill
4)Brian Pritchard
5)Jim Connor
6)Stuart Anderson
7)Mark Peers
8)Rob Lloyd
9)Karl Thomas
10)Adam Warlow
11)Joe Connor

12)Tony Barras
13)Paul Lodge
14)Jim McCluskie

Can’t get past Peersy and Joe Connor on either flank just imagine…

Actually this has got me thinking who is the greatest Albion X1 of all time. I think the following team is very close, shame I didnt see a lot of them play.

GK - Keith Mason

RB - Dave Griffiths
CB - Brian Pritchard (C)
CB - Frank Schofield
LB - Liam Brownhill

RW - Alf Ashley
CM - Ken Barnes
CM - Dave Carrick
LW - Paddy Daly

ST - Frank Fidler
ST - Karl Thomas

Sub - Joe Dale
Sub - John Goryl
Sub - Trevor Ogden

Manager - Brian Booth
Assitant - Jim Vince

Come on Andy, would be good to see what your Select XI would be from the 2 teams!

The present team plays great football - almost as good as Ken Barnes best side :-

                          Mellor
                   Davey Lambert
              Barnes Nichol Gorton
       Matthews Taberner Tynan Cunliffe McDonald

Unfortunately they never won anything and to date neither has the present team - but i am sure they will.

For what it’s worth here is my all time Albion Greats - on the players I have seen.

                          Mellor
                 Fielding Higgins
     Ken Barnes Ashley Wagstaffe
 Dale Taberner Ogden McCann Daly

Mark Radcliffe was excellent keeper, Alf Ashley was right half and centre half. Frank Fidler and Jack Wilkinson were all 1950’s greats. Chris Nicol played many times for Republic of Ireland. Last saw Witton play 1960.
Anyone recall Joe Dale’s hole in the net goal against Runcorn?

Not sure of all the spellings, and as Colin says team could change after thinking of more players

strange isn’t it when players like Neil Parsley and Geoff Horsfield barely get a mention

I can’t believe Colin Rose and Carl Alford have not been mentioned yet, both played for England!

Some good shout outs there, the trouble is fitting them all in and the decisions get clouded by memory loss, personal favouritism and to a degree your own favourite era of the Albs. One of mine was Brian Booth’s era even though the Wembley team was maybe the best I’ve seen keep the names coming ? UTA

The best team I remember
Radcliffe Chew Schofield Ashley Robinson Cowden Dale Pennington Christopher Hyde and Johnson
