My elderly neighbour has come up with a query.Apparently Bob Mecock born 1910,played for Witton in late 40s early 50s.He was born in Hoole and played For Chester,Tranmere amongst others. My neighbour wonders if Lucy Mecock, the ITV presenter, and the late Bob Mecock are related. He [the neighbour !]thinks Lucy is the grand daughter of Bob Mecock.Lucy is from Chester.
I wonder if anyone, especially Chad has any information?
Thanks.
Theres a bit about him on the ever reliable (not) wikipedia, no mention of us or Lucy.
I like Jo Blyth myself ,doing Granada weather , I once went A@@e over T*T downstairs when i heard her voice \I tried to get a quick glimpse of her on the TV. ooops I think I went off thread a bit there, the lynch mob will be out !
Watch out TW !
Bob Meacock’s known playing record below. As regards Lucy, well they are both from Chester so it is possible they are related. The problem I’ve had in establishing it though is that I reckon that isn’t her real name. In addition the only reference to her age is a mention of born 1959 that I can not confirm either.

Although I have heard the name mentioned and also seen photographs of Bob Meacock, I know very little else about him.
With regards to his possible family connection to Granada Reports presenter, Lucy Meacock. I have met her in person on a couple of occasions - both sporting events I might add. I have taken the liberty of sending her an email in the hope of finding out further information.
If and when I hear anything regarding this, I will be only too happy to post on here or provide Chad with the information.

It has to be surely, no one would pick that name through choice
Thank you all.Apparently my neighbour who is an octogenerian saw Bob play for Witton in late 40s early 50s.
VJ - I would suggest that he saw him play in 1945 or 1946!
The research and information that my old fella has done and is still doing is staggering and more than worthy of publication (as you can see from this response).
It would be the most comprehensive guide to the playing history of Witton Albion I keep on mithering him to produce a book, and think he needs encouraging.
Would be wonderful to see all this information published. In the modern day it is so much easier to publish your own book, volume is not the issue it used to be.
The perfect time for this would be 2012 in my opinion, 125 years of the club to commemorate (although the exact date has itself always been a debate)!
I would love to see Chad release this and it would be a fitting outcome for all his hard work on this.
Chad has to produce a book Andy.A legacy for the future Wittoners.
Please esquire, get writing.
My late dad mentioned Bob M in his talks to me about the players he saw in the forties and early fifties. He used to tell me that Bob like a couple of pints of beer before the match. Maybe some of the older guys in the club can confirm this. I know the late great Ken Barnes like a couple of whiskies before a game and a few more after and I saw him do it!! A whisky is a bit different though than sloshing round with two large beers inside you!!
As for Chad the man is a legend and a book from him would be something brilliant and to treasure. Chad also for me happens to be a fantastic mate of forty odd years standing and I can’t describe how vauable to me that is. Unthinkable to watch Witton without Chad somewhere on the scene I’ll let him off with the Spanish trips. What I also like is Andrew Chadwick who never gets upset with me when I call him “Little Chad” he understands I’ve watch him grow up!! Thats what I like about our great club the great people that are part of it and are “THE CLUB”.
