Just watched Match of the Day, and saw yet another goal not given, when the ball was 2-3 feet over the line. It got Hanson and Linekar talking yet again about goal line technology.
I noticed the linesman who didn’t see it was our old friend Bobby Pollock.
We have had Bobby referee 4 of our games this season, but not in a league game. They were all Doodson Sports Cup games.
He refereed the Alsager and Leek town games in September and the Stafford Rangers game in December, where his performances earned rave reviews from me.
However, I think he had a very off day when he refereed our Quarter Final game at Kendal Town.
Here are a couple of extracts from the Kendal Town match report:-
Witton then had a very lucky escape, when on a rare counter-attack Kevin Leadbetter and Ashley Dunn found themselves clear of Witton’s defence with only Tom Schofield and Witton’s keeper to beat. As Kevin played the ball through, Tom seemed to dive full length and intercept the pass with his arm. However, referee Bobby Pollock saw it differently and waived play on, allowing Witton to recover.
Kendal’s captain Marc Joeseph was getting increasingly frustrated at his team’s and the referee’s performance, and seemed to try and take it out on Witton’s forwards. A flashpoint in the game came 4mins later, when he flattened Mark Buchan from behind, and then seemed to stamp on him deliberately whilst he was on the ground, which incensed the Witton bench and the 20-30 supporters in the ground. They were further incensed when Bobby Pollock failed to take any action, even though it was obvious the Kendal captain had lost it.
