A Petition to wind up Evo-Stik League Premier Division club Bradford Park Avenue by HM Revenue & Customs, claiming to be creditors of the company, will be heard at the Royal Courts of Justice in London on July 14th 2010, at 10.30am.
The Petition was presented on May 27th by HMRC, shortly after Avenue had been beaten by Boston United in the Premier Division play-off final.
This summer has seen Simon Collins take over as manager at the Horsfall Stadium, but he has been forced to work with a severely reduced wage budget compared to last season.
that was a proud day to be a wittoner. what a gutsy performance from witton that day. just the type of performance england could have done with in south africa.
I was there eddie, with my Dad and two mates, “Goughy and Knoppy”. In fact it was the first time I had driven my Dad’s car any distance, I was knackered when we got there!! Your right of course, we should have won, 2-0 up and it should have been 4-0. I drove back a very unhappy 19 year old. I went to a 21st that night and got balthered.
WHS.
Now your talking here. What a season this was and what a team we had then with the old Maestro pulling the strings I refer to of course Barnsie, Barnsie, SONG he has bandy legs etc sung to the Troggs record !! What a player!! These were the fun days of football. I seem to remember we played Vics in one of the FA cup previous rounds and they took the lead. Then Barnsie got hold of the game and we murdered them 6 1 at the Drillfield which had been painted red and white in parts the night before with a home made sign in the centre circle saying “beware of the Quicksand”!! From memory I remember Freddie Taberner rifling in two superb goals and Barnsie opening the scoring with a bendy free kick before D Beckham’s dad had probably left school. I think my own favourite player Roy Mathews also scored that day too! What a team!!
I was 16 when we went to Bradford a few weeks later and have memories of this game which we should have won 4 2!! I think the team was Mellor, Davey, Lambert, Barnes Nicholl, Gorton, Matthews, Taberner, Tynan, Macdonald, Cunliffe, but Chad will correct me if I’m wrong. I remember a small group of us being threatened by 250 Bradford fans before the match started and Barry Thomas (all 6 foot 6 of him), standing in front of them and bellowing get down your own end. They all promptly ran off down to their own end. Great guy Barry saw him the other week outside Witton Church!!
I can’t believe we went 2 nil up, had a blatant pen turned down which would have made it 3 nil because Barnsie never missed any so it would have been a goal. Gutted when it ended up 3 2 for them and Bobbie Ham scored. Unfortunately I think Pete Mellor made a mistake for one of the goals!! These were great days although that team never won the league. They’d be world beaters now compared to the current England team. Used to love the Jimmy Mac song sung to the Tamla Motown song “Jimmy Mac” by Matha reeves and the Vandallas!! Great Witton Choir in those days with Big Chad, and several other senior figures involved!! Great times, great club, lovely memories of lovely people many who are not with us today.
Onward and Upward with our new team!! I’ll be there tonight to see Oggies Army against Eastwood a team I’d love us to beat for once even in a friendly!!
