Well here goesā€¦

We started badly and it just got worse - Tandy never showed and Carl Ruffer started the game despite feeling unwell and had to come off in the first half. We only had 2 subs and Brodie replaced Ruffer slotting in at left back with McAllister moving to centre back. MM had a penalty saved in a pretty poor first half which saw Brigg raising their game. The second half got off to a bad start with Brigg scoring with their first attack. To be honest we never looked like scoring and we became even more disjointed when Henry was dismissed. We did get the ball in the net but Heler was offside. Then the manager was sent from the dugout after colliding with the fattest, unfit looking liner in football. Sadly the only highlight of the game was the second half banter with the Brigg subs and the berating of Porky the liner. Not going to blame anyone for todays display I will leave that to others

Great support again today must have been at least 50 including Lee & partner from Sheffield who because his car was off the road came by public transport and had to make 3 changes.

Bad day at the office and best forgotten by all.

Most disappointing for me were the facts that;

We had one fit substitute!

No physio!

The captain gets a red card for throwing a punch!

We were beaten by a club in 18th position who had lost their last 5 at home!

Iā€™ll leave my summary to the facts rather than opinion.

More like a chicken than a rabbit !

2 quotes from the Brigg Forum

" Great fighting display today, worked really hard for each other, gteat spirit thro the team and a deserved 3 points. Even when we went down to 10 men we still fought til the end and looked the better side throughout the whole match. Witton players need to have a long look at themselves and act better, their behaviour during and after the game was very poor, very very poor losers."

" Good competitive game, they looked a shadow of the side we played earlier in the season and a bit of revenge for us,we deserved it today, well done lads"

Canā€™t argue with that !

The players need to follow the example of the fans

Tandy seemed ok on Tuesday? Hard to comment without knowing the facts though.

Yet again we have threatened to put a run of results together, only to revert to type. The paly offs are still looking like slipping away from us, and over the course of the season there will be no excuse for not finishing in at least a play off position. I am yet to see a better team than us. People said Sheffield looked a good side when we played them away, but i always felt our performance that night had made them look better than they were - which i think was proved when they came to WP. Chasetown have beaten us twice, but i think in both games had we scored first then we would have gone on to win.

I just dont understand why we are so inconsistent. I know we have had to chop and change the side often this season, but that is a fact of life at this level. The core of the side has generally remained the same.

Wasnt there yesterday so cant comment on the performance, but we are going to need another 3 or 4 wins on the bounce now to get back into contention again. If we dont make the play offs then serious questions need to be asked. I dont think we can afford to lose any more games now.

I keep saying we will win this league and Foster will score 40 goals, but neither is likely to happen if he isnā€™t on the field in the first place!! 20 odd goals and he sits on the bench? The Manager needs to explain his reasoniong because I donā€™t get it and neither do a lot of others. You win games by scoring goals, play the man likelt to!! (And please donā€™t say I am not there every week, goals speak for themselves.)

Fozzie is carrying an injury

A bad day all round.

Started with a text from Jamie to the manager at 4:30am in the morning to say he would not be fit enough to travel. I have heard a few rumours as to the reason why, but I dont think it is right to discuss them on here. Hopefully, Jamie sorts his problems out, and returns to playing football for the albs sooner rather than later.

Also unfit to travel was our first choice keeper, and longterm injured Paul Booth. Pritch stayed at Wincham to get some physio treatment, and also looked after our guests from Rumania.

Before we had even set off, Rutter started having uncontrollable sneezing bouts, which worsened on the coach, resulting in quite a bad nose bleed.

With no reserve team to call on, (as they cost to much money to run), we had to start the game with Rutter under the weather, an injured Fozzie on the bench, and only Brodie fit to take the bench.

Gary was forced into playing the 4-3-3 formation, which he has used successfully in recent matches. However, this system requires good attacking full backs. Unfortunately, I think the changes forced on Gary at the last moment meant that he did not have the right personnel to play this system.

Matters only got worse when early on, Rutter could not continue, which resulted in a back four with only one player playing in his usual position. (2 midfielders in Ryan and Brodes, and a right back starting at left back, but playing most of the game at centre half).

Without the experience of Pritch, Rutter or Boothy, I felt the defence played too deep, which had an effect on the rest of the team, who also had to play deeper to help the defence. I think this gave the opposition the advantage, which they took very early on in the second half.

We rallied to the cause, but we were not helped by very poor and unfit officials, which infuriated our fans along the touch line. Unfortuanately, the abuse of the linesman went a bit too far and it became very obvious he was going to make sure we didnā€™t get anything out of the game when he disallowed a very good goal by Peter Heler for off-side.

The fat linesman then body checked Gary on his way back to the half-way line, and proceeded to talk the referee into sending Gary off!!

In between time, both teams had been reduced to ten men, when there No. 11 kicked our keeper for no reason. Their No 3 ran the full length of the pitch to get involved in a punch-up with Paul Henry. Their No. 11 rightfully got his marching orders. Then the fat linesman intervened to make sure Paul rightfully got his marching orders, but failed to mention the involvement made by their No 3?

A day that started badly, and just got worse.

Thankfully, we have no mid-week game, which will give Gary time to re-group his players, and possibly recruit some new ones to provide cover until our more senior players recover from injury.

Forgot to mention the missed penalty!

TT - Helers goal according to Chad ( who was stood in a good position ) was off-side.
It was after that decision that the Gastric Band liner came under a hail of abuse but IMO officials do not deliberately give decisions against us because they are getting stick from fans.

We were beaten by a better side on the day.

I was in a great position to see it also. From where I was stood, Heler was stood in an off-side position, but just before the ball was crossed, he stepped back on-side. The defender then stepped up, so Heler then looked off-side. However the rules state it is when the ball is struck as to whether or not a player is off-side, and he was definitely on-side, in my opinion, when the ball was struck for the cross.

Accepted TT.

prior to this game I thought we were going to string a few good results together but witton being witton was brought back down to earth . Sounds like Gary was forced into playing a certain way with the players available. Lets hope with us having no game midweek those injured players can get their fitness back and we will have more or less a full squad to choose from for saturday.

I apoligise unreservedly for my comment on why Foster was not playing. It is sad that we have so little money to play with but at least we should still be a football club next season unlike many other clubs who may not get out of the mess they are in this time. (Portsmouth, Chester, ā€œyou know whoā€ et al).

What a shame about Jamie Tandy I hope he is ok. Heā€™s a good lad and we are lucky to have him at this level, good luck Jamie!

Very dissapointing to see that comment from Brigg about us being bad losers, that sickens me really I havenā€™t posted until now as I was so dissapointed about losing yesterday. I thought we would win there but it seems circumstances were against us. but to see comments like that is very very dissapointing :frowning:

Sounds like a good one to have missed, still very disappointing really thought we would have got 3 points ! but others will drop points, im afraid our lack of depth will maybe cost us more than others and we miss out on the playoffs, we do not have anymore the low cost players on the fringe to bring in - a self funded reseve team anyone? Gary has to build bridges with the local teams and see what drops out surely someone like Terry Murphy could be a help, he had Ryan Broadhead playing for him ( and other good players )and I know he would know of even better players in the locality - they generally will cost less than imports and in my view will generally give a bit more loyalty and maybe some would be able to help us out when required to supplement the squad, this level we are at is not so great that we need the very best around ?

roll on saturday - cmon wittern
