Robbo, they were all damn good players and all local lads. There are young lads in the area who are good players but never seem to get a chance to play at higher levels. Three lads from Weaverham High School were in the Mid Cheshire Schools team that got to the quarter final of the English Schools Cup a couple of years ago yet non have made it into any of the local semi pro teams, I wonder why?
WHS.
PS There is a very important name missing from the list, my now sadly deceased cousin Terry Dunn. Playing for Mid Cheshire Boys he scored the fastest hat-trick ever at the old Central Ground, 3 in 4 minutes!!
WHS.

One of the main reasons for local young talent not making it into our senior side (Ryan Broadhead excepted) is that we have not got a reserve side, to watch them develop. The main reason for this is that a reserve side can cost a lot of money to run, which we can’t afford. However, I know the Chairman is looking into this, and is hoping in the future to have a youth side capable of filling the gap.

One of the other reasons is that players at our level tend to play for a manager (Pritch excepted) rather than for a team. Hence you will tend to find the players come fom where the manager comes from, or from teams he has managed in the past.

Apols WHS forgot about Terry. Great player in a great Ken Barnes team !

Another one was Terry " Nacky " Noden who was playing for Witton while still at SJD’s. He went on to WBA but his career was cut short when he suffred a bad break of the leg playing for the youth team.

I think nowadays that young local players get snapped up at too earlier an age by premiership clubs then get cast aside if not good enough then they lose interest or move on to others things.
