BT Sports

I noticed yesterday that Buxton FC have installed BT Sport into their Clubhouse and will be showing a live Premier League game every Saturday before home games, the Club opens at 12.30 ready for the 12.45 kick offs.
With Witton changing the entry into the clubhouse to front door only before matches and looking to increase revenue then this is something we could look at doing also, Buxtons support and club is smaller than ours and though i dont know the exact cost of BT Sport if Buxton can afford it surely we could too (i have heard a figure of £175 a month for Clubs but not sure if this is correct).
There are many top games on the Sat lunchtime with the local big teams all involved so United fans may come in especially to watch the televised game buy a couple of pints and just maybe pay to watch Witton afterwards.
There is also live games most Thurs nights (Conference, U21 internationals and womens Prem) and with the Club being open every Thurs this may also attract a few fans.

Hi Matt
Could you please look into the costs and let me know exact costs and we will consider it. (incl period of contract etc)

We have done similar previously with sky but in honestly the figures just do not stack up at all sadly and would require a ridiuculous amount of extra revenue to cover it especially given we have very little if any passing trade.

Can speak to me at the game if you wish.

Will do Neil, i heard its 80% cheaper than Sky so il look into it and see you tomorrow, i presume Buxtons club will have little use too but they have it till the end of the season so there figures must add up?

Looking on their Website it looks like approx £75 per month on a 12 month contract for sports clubs but im gonna call them after work today to get exact figures and come and see you tomorrow

Would be great to have it in the club and would be interesting to see whether it would attract people down earlier. Buxton’s club was certainly busy on Saturday so that’s a pretty good case study!

Just rang BT Sports and for our club its £75 exc VAT per month, this includes BT Sports 1&2 plus ESPN so not only will the live Prem games be on every Sat at 12 45 but also Europa League on Thurs and FA Cup games.
If its ordered before Aug 31st they will install it free inc the box and Satelite dish.

If it is a money maker I’m all for it as I don’t have BT Sports as yet as they have no Rugby or Cricket!!
WHS.

The club may decide this is viable but if not i’d be happy to contribute. 10 people paying £7.50 a month would be fine by me, especially if there’s a happy hour during the first half guinness

I agree, theres a few big games featuring Utd, City, Liverpool Everton & Spurs so plenty of Wittoners would come down before our games to watch the TV game, i like the sound of happy hour too, maybe 12 30 til 2pm 50p off all draught beers?

Maybe we should charge 50p more to pay for the service? Seriously it sounds a good idea but I wonder just how many supporters will come to watch Spurs etc. Really keen football fans will have the system at home or watch it in their local. Still, worth a try.
WHS.

100 people at 75p a month would be even better or perhaps a small charge on the door of say £1.

I know of at least 3 Wittoners who support Spurs WHS plus we have Villa, West Brom plus the big local sides, also if away fans are notified they may decide to come early.
As for pubs showing the games i dont think this is the case as we arrived in Buxton before 12 to find a pub showing the BT Sport game Liverpool v Stoke and could not find anywhere showing the game apart from Buxtons clubhouse!
I dont like the idea of charging people to come in as this may put them off but im pretty sure it would pay for itself on extra beer sales

As I said, worth a try but at £75 a month and having to pay for 12 months that’s £900 we need to get back, can we make that much on beer sales?
WHS.

I personally think this is a great idea Yorkshire red, and would be more than willing to go with Ste’s idea of £7.50 for ten of us a month that’s 2 people in just another 8 to go

The question I think that needs to be asked is ‘am I going to use this facility?’ If the answer is no, then shut up and stop putting a downer on a forward step for the clubhouse!!!

I would also pay £7 50 a month so im pretty sure we could have this up and running, it does however depend on the bar staff as they would need to open at 12 30 so they would be starting an hour earlier than at present but hopefully it wont be a problem.
See u all tonight UTA

I presume you are referring to me jonnyamery, I am not “Putting a down” on it as you put it, I want the club to do well out of it financially and laying out £900 from Club funds is a risk, but I think a risk worth taking. If we can get 10 people to finance it then it is no longer a risk and would be a boon to our finances. I do get a bit fed up with being constantly taken to task for not committing my life to Witton, I come when I can, donate time and money when I can but I do have other commitments even if you don’t. See you at the gate tonight when I will happily take your money even though I sadly cannot stay for the match as I have a prior commitment at 8pm.

Don’t bite Alan!!!

The silent majority think the world of you and all the things you contribute to our club.
