Cammell Laird have announced the appointment of ex Tranmere Rovers man Ken McKenna as their new First Team Manager. McKenna will be assisted by current first team coach Neil Young. McKenna replaces outgoing Manager Ian Doran who has been appointed to the Birkenhead clubs board of directors. Doran has spearheaded Lairds amazing rise up the Non League pyramid which has seen Lairds achieve four promotions in five years, moving from the West Cheshire League to the UniBond Premier League in that time.
In a statement, Lairds Chairman John Lynch said “We are absolutely delighted to have appointed Ken. To attract someone like him to be our new manager shows the ambition we have here to progress to the next level. I am also delighted that Neil Young has stayed on as assistant manager as he played an integral part in our promotion last season. Neil has previous experience as Assistant Manager at Rhyl FC and was successful there before joining us last season while Ken has played, coached and managed at the highest level with TNS, including the European Champions League game against Liverpool. I amm sure both Ken and Neil will ensure that we will again be challenging for honours next season and beyond.”
one to look out fore next year, ken always seems to do a good job. until the money runs out.
With Nantwich up too along with Bradford and FC United it looks like a good league for us next season; should get big gates for the Bradford and FC United games. However it looks like being a hard league to win so the club needs to pull together and stop arguing.

Thats good comimg from u WHS. I thought u have always said " got to get out of this awful league "
To defend WHS (I must be mellowing after the turmoil of the last week), he can’t do right for doing wrong! In the emotional past seven days he has stayed optimistic when many having been battling in a war of words.
I enjoy sparring with WHS but he remains a loyal Wittoner (despite missing games for bowls matches)! It will be a very good league next season and will happily include the Whitby Weekender and hopefully many other highlights!
Our support needs to be right behind the team from the off, hopefully WHS will forget statements about this awful league and take his rightful place on the terraces next to all the other loyal supporters.
Remember at the end of darkness comes light!
Still full of sides lacking support so those games will still have no atmosphere. However the games against Nantwich Bradford and FC United are sure to have a good one. What I have always wanted is for Witton to be in a league their standing deserves, the Unibond Premier isn’t it.

The league table doesn’t lie, and - for the moment at least - we are in the league in which we belong.
Let’s hope we can do something about that next season.
