Cammell Laird vs Witton Albion, FAT R1

good result, well done to the players. anyone at home would do. come on the albion.

Much better performance, in the first half in particular we played some excellent football and could well have gone into the break with a good lead, had it not have been for the referee and two great pieces of defending by the home side.

I think Botham had his best 45 minutes since being at the club, he took on their right back a few times and either delivered a dangerous cross or forced the defender to foul him and concede a free kick. He was also instrumental in Kinsey’s first goal, with a nicely weighted through ball after a good run.

Kinsey’s finish for the first, class! Picked up the ball just inside the area, held off a Laird’s defender and fired a great shot across their keeper into the bottom corner. What made it better still was the quality of the left-footed strike from a right-footed player. It was as good an individual goal as you will see all season and the big fella enjoyed it.

A superb headed clearance under the bar and equally good left handed save from their keeper denied us further goals that looked almost certain to cross the line. We were causing them huge problems at corners with excellent deliveries from Maguire, who was also much improved.

The referee somehow managed to conjure up about four minutes of first half injury time, when there had been one goal, no bookings, no substitutions, no injuries or trainers on the pitch. Unbelievable. I genuinely think he had forgotten to look at this watch! With the last action of the extended half Laird’s scored from a corner. We don’t look comfortable at corners at the moment and it is a weakness we need to address. (Sorry for being critical but it’s a fact)!

It was a travesty that we went in at 1-1 given the control we had exerted in the first half.

Minutes into the second half Kinsey executed the perfect penalty after a foul on Macca, restoring our justified lead. The second period was more evenly matched as the home side applied pressure and we went a little pedestrian. We were too static at times and watched the opposition pass the ball around coming forward. You always felt however that we were going to win this one.

Still think we are desperate to fix one position in the side and a couple of others need to do better or be replaced, but it was much better performance and a good win. I won’t single these players out as it may not be considered motivational!

MOM Kinsey; superbly hit goal with his ‘wrong’ foot and a perfectly placed penalty. I know it’s only October but if this guy does not win player of the season I’ll be amazed. Proved any Wittoners are wrong to doubt him and his work rate is immense.

Not really sure what the point of this post is?

Just that you are the leading “poster” on here and there was no comment on this performance from you, I assume you were there as you rarely miss a match unlike yours truly. There was no hidden meaning in the post.
WHS.

We got the win which was crucial, didnt play too bad always felt we were in control but they gave it a go, quite physical, macca diving maybe but it was a stupid lunging tackle and always looked like a pen, macca just made sure ? isnt it nice to see pens go in the net remember last season ? nearly lost it at the end when holt miscontrolled and then missed his tackle still not looking secure imo, did quite like him early doors maybe suffering a loss of confidence like mr rooney ! pete heler returning was good although he does not look quite himself yet, a bit unfit maybe certainly looked a bit heavier than last year overall decent but we can play better.

Easy now C.J, remember individual criticism of players is no longer approved of, however right you are

Do you know any right back who always looks secure? For what we are able to pay I think we have a damn good squad.
WHS.

Yeah, Sergio Ramos, Real Madrid and Spain, always looks secure to me.

Probably a bit above our budget though!

My point exactly Rabbit, with the money we have we have great players, full of heart and effort, we can ask no more.

‘Easy now C.J, remember individual criticism of players is no longer approved of, however right you are’.

I don’t think thats ever been the case Rabbit, its a forum.

My opinion is that to criticise and suggest that half the team weren’t good enough after the hopefully ‘freak result and performance’ at Skem was totally over the top in the context of the season we have had. Obviously the day was massively disappointing to those that went and football is a passionate sport but it was blown out of all proportion on here.

Partly the fact that so few people post on here means that it takes only a small number of negative postings for it to be deemed as ‘fact’ and the ‘opinion of the many.’

You have only to look at the back page of the Guardian today, which is a response to the quite ridiculous (Only my opinion) criticism on here of Andy Kinsey to see the harm it can do and the influence it can hold.

Up the Albs

Well at least it got us a sensational headline on the back page!

Obviously the NG reporter comes on here looking for titbits and then puts the questions to the manager looking for the right response to put in print.

My criticism of AK was purely that he does not have pace(which he admits)and it showed in the two games against stronger opposition Chester and Skem. His goalscoring and workrate are not in question and I hope he carries on as he has started.

You are right(again)it is a forum and anybody can express their opinions on here whether they are right or wrong. ( I am probably more wrong than right but there u go )

We do need more posters on here, there are plenty of guests looking in at all times.

Maybe I should do a WHS and stay off and see if the number of posters goes up ?

Chad, I am amazed that you of all people still read the Guardian. They banned my reviews of local theatre simply because I critiscised their bias towards Vics on this forum. I was never on their pay roll, I did it for free so local groups would get a look in instead of all the stuff about what is on in Manchester, Liverpool and Altrincham and what is on TV!! Freedom of the press? I don’t think so, certainly no freedom of speech as far as the Guardian is concerned. As for our team, print this Mr. Simpson, “We have the most hard working team it has ever been my pleasure to watch, they may not be the best technically but they lead by miles for effort”.

Never mind eli, I will talk to you on the personal site!!!
