Have just seen this post by ‘Frosty’ on Leek’s Forum;
As of last night i have decided with much deliberation to retire from football, it seems almost fitting to come to this conclusion on the eve of a Leek vs Witton match with both clubs so close to my heart but im sure the witton fans will forgive me if i say i hope Leek win as they need it most and im sure no matter what happens this saturday that Witton will get what they deserved last season promotion.
Unfortuantly im not involved tomorrow as it would of been a nice way to go but i understand there is no room for sentiment in football. I have many people to thank in both clubs most of whom i have done personally with the exception of the fans who from both clubs have in the whole supported me and gave me great delight in good times and more recent bad times and its those people who come and pay week in week out that make life so lucky for us few lads that get paid for what we love doing something that is often forgotten by the minority. Unfortunatly after my injury i have never been able to play without severe pain or got back to anywhere near the standard i set myself to which i will always be gutted about and regret till i pass. I’m lucky enough to have such a great and supportive family and wife who have helped me even comeback to the level i was playing at after docters told me i shouldnt be playing its them who are the main reason why im not devastated in leaving football and im looking forward to my next adventure!!! ha ha (creating a future number 10). to play alongside a young number 9 named MOSELEY.
It goes without saying that I hope he enjoys his retirement, and now that he has a spare few hours on a Saturday afternoon I look forward to seeing Frosty down at Wincham Park supporting the Albion as we chase promotion.
Good lad, shame when a player has to call time on his career after injury. There appears a lot of honesty and emotion in his message.
Sure he deserves a few ‘chants’ at leek tomorrow (Greenie get composing) and naturally everyone wishes him all the best in what follows next after football.
I expect he will at tomorrow’s game, so would be nice to show him some recognition. If he has been playing in pain then you can see why he never managed to perform as he would of hoped last season.
A great shame that such a wholehearted and talented player has had to retire, and I just want to add my name to what I am sure will be a long list of people who wish him all the very best for the future.
My Heart goes out to Frosty. Theres nothing worst than being told that you cant do something, that you love doing.
From my own personal experience i know how hard it can be to come to terms with bad news like this. When your body fails you by injury, or illness.
Dealing with pain is a hard enough thing to deal with. But not doing something that you love doing makes it twice as hard to deal with. Its good that Carl has the support of friends and family.
For those who dont know. I injured my back about 10 years ago. Every 6 / 7 months i have pain killing injections in my back. Like Carl this meant that i could no longer do some of the things that i loved doing. Mainly sports football, skiing, and golf. Mind you most people that i have played golf with will tell you that i couldn'tt play golf anyway lol !
Im sure with the help of Carls family, and friends, that Carl will be ok. I know that hell miss not playing football. Thats just something that he will have to deal with.
All the best to Frosty, it’s a shame that he never got back to the form that we saw when he first came to the club. Hope everything works out for him. Like he says, we could have Moseley and Frost up front for Witton again in 25 years!
All best wishes to Carl … it sounds like he has the right spirit to make a go of things after football. I’ll particularly remember him for making a match-winning contribution at Woodley last season, and for a game a couple of years ago, against Bridlington (I think), when we won 2-1 after their goalie had nearly kicked Frostie’s head off! His guts and determination won that game for us as well. Good luck to you in whatever you do next.
Thank you very much for all ur kind messages very much apprciated. I leave with very fond memories but not as many as i would of liked unfortunatly and i probably should of called time sooner but didnt listen to people closest to me. Of course i will be back to support and watch the team clinch the title in style, ive also told Jim to watch his back becasue im after his job now!!! ha ha
before i go a quick thank you and shout out to all the backroom and ground staff who do a masterful job behind the scenes week in week out - pretty much like PRITCHARD. ha ha
How bad is the injury? As with Moseley, it would be brilliant if you could turn out for the Supporters Team as a farewell?? A final opportunity to pull on the red and white!
If it’s something you would consider then just let us know.
Mike seemed to enjoy himself if you want to run the idea past him!
I thought there must be a reason why Carl never hit the same kind of form as in the past as he’s a genuine lad. This is a real shame and I’m gutted for Carl and us because a really fit Frosty would be the missing link in our team i.e an effective other striker. Don’t ever lose touch with us Carl your’e welcome back at Wincham any time mate. I’m sure Jim could use someone like you in a scouting type capacity even if it was just on an adhoc basis. Hope you stay in touch with us anyway!!
Like has been said before will never forget frsty’s contribution in the game against woodley in the trophy last year! Such a shame he has had to reitre like and he is an absolute legend! Good luck for the future and maybe you could become jim’s no.2? haha
I’d like to wish him well.
I can’t claim to know him personally but I’ll always remember the way he used to chase down any defenders or keepers who dawdled on the ball.
Carl all the very best for the future, thank you for all you did for the Albion, my memory will be of you scoring at Stocksbridge, or should I say seeing you emerge from the fog celebrating scoring, Did you really score that day ?
you will always be remembered at witton albion fc frosty. u have been amazing for us. cum stand with the wittoners 2moz we will give you something to remember for your retirment
Just like to echo everyone else’s sentiments. In Carl’s first spell with us (on loan I think) he was one of the best forwards I’ve ever seen in a Witton shirt.
He looked like he was back to his best at the start of last season particularly against Wigan, but even then I noticed him limping. To his credit he always put 100% effort in, despite the obvious pain.
Hope he stays involved with football in some capacity and it would be great if possible for him to play with the supporters team!
Spoke with Carl today and he’s hoping to get into coaching and earning the relevant badges. I’m sure his total enthusiasm for the game will carry him through and I very much look forward to seeing him at the front of a bench in the not too distant years time.
Oh and yep he’s speaking to the White Pele re possibly appearing for the Supporters.
