Glad to hear joes ok its always worrying to see a player being stretchered into an ambulance! As soon as joe got injured the result was meaningless but to be fair we were by far the better side 2nd half and im sure we would of won had joe not gone off!
very good turnout from us wittoners and not sure of the attendance but there was far more than there average of 79!! think we took at least 60
Rabbit ! Are you hinting at a change of management ? Your comments are quite correct but I am sure the present manager will not implement any of your proposals ! Lack of investment at the end of last season has cost us dearly and I say again if we do not get out of this league at the first attempt then we will never get out of it and will be joining the likes of Willenhall and Carlton playing in front of crowds below 100.
Stayaway Wittoners I have spoken to will not come because of the league we are in,will not pay £8.50 and do not like the manager. You make your own luck in football as has been demonstrated over the canal. You have to admire them they have come back from the lowest depths and now look like wiping out a good chunk of their debts and all of a sudden everyone wants to be associated with them.
KTF
Agree with a lot of that eli.
Good coments by all, glad that joe was discharged, would think that he would be out for a week maybe two.Perhaps the management need to think of looking out for a second keeper perhaps one on loan,or one who has not got a club at present and wants to keep his hand in,(excuse the pun0
Good points made on here and as always everyone has different opinions, but I think Saturday was a one off , and we could be looking too much on the black side of things . I think it should be plainly obvious that cover for certain positions is vital to sustain a promotion push as I mentioned in a previous posting. Ideally all areas should be covered and ,but that will be a strain on Witton at the moment.
Questioned in a previous post was why did Witton buy an additional striker, and I think it was presumed that Steve or Mike would be dropped, that wasn’t the reason. It was for cover and added options in the forward line .I guess in hindsight a goalkeeper would have been useful , but you cant predict whos going to get injured next.
Despite all the great help existing supporters are doing at the club, it those turnstiles that need to be turning. it may be a catch 22 situation ,because football is an entertainment industry and its not pretty in this league, but i feel the ball is well and truly in a section of stayaway so called supporters who now would rather spend more money down the pub watching the scores flash through on sky, and then moan about how bad Witton or Vics are for that matter! Witton will definately not be in a position to reach play-off status of yesteryears unless they start coming back and start supporting the team/club by going through those turnstiles again thick or thin times.
Im positive that Gary is doing what he can and things will indeed get more consistant and settled. Its steady progress despite yesterdays blip.
Despite scoring a good goal at Carlton IMO the new striker is not the type of player we are looking for. Ex-league players who come down to non-league quickly find it hard to adjust eg Crowe and Rapley. Ryan Broadhead has fitted in well and deserves more games - believe he was recomended by Terry Murphy who knows all about local talent and maybe we should be going down that route - local players who will not break the budget and are eager to impress.
Saturday’s game was one to write off. The ref was dreadful and cleggy’s injury changed the game along with the ref’s decision not to send off their number 10.
that said we were by far the better team in this game ! It sounds daft to say that when you have lost 4-1 but without the events above the score could easily have been reversed. Their keeper was by far and away man of the match and that says it all.
With regard to Gary and team selection,I think some folks need to take a deep breath before they press the keys. This isn’t the time to stir discontent. We are where we are because of a certain manager who left us for his own reasons. Its going to take a lomg time to repair that damage. Unless someone comes in with a bag of cash we have to manage where we are. Its either that or sell up. You need to rememberthat despite today’s events the other lot lost their club and the shareholders all their money. Its now one man’s plaything. Get a grip !
Too many supporters are looking thro’ rose coloured glases. Read CHADS report on the main website - 2 mistakes by defender ? Rudd cost us 2 goals - the reason the manager gave for dropping Pritch was that he was giving too many goals away - I can’t remember more than 2 in the season so far ! Using Gleggs injury is papering over the cracks.
Interesting fact - where was Dylan Adams yesterday ? Thought he had served his suspension because he played at Willenhall.
I agree with Rabbits preferred team selection. Feel sorry for Boothy, an outstanding player for me who should be alongside Pritch at the back without a doubt!!
Spot on YAZZY97 !
Wasn’t there yesterday, but with what happened to Clegg i think it should just be written off as ‘one of those things’.
After the Quorn and Sutton Coldfield games i think that both the management and the players came in for a fair bit of criticism from several supporters - myself included. I think at that time some of the criticism was justified, we put in 2 pretty awful performances infront of our own fans. On the back of that - and possibly as an attempt to prove the doubters wrong - the team pulled off some excellent results, showing character and ability (both of which were clearly demonstrated against Brigg, in what is the best display i have seen this season).
I think that we now need to lay off and let the dust settle for a few weeks.
I am with Eli in that i don’t think that we needed to bring another central defender to the club. Pritch and Rudd were doing well at the time, and we also had Booth to come back into the side. In saying that though i do admit that Ruffer is looking a decent player - but is he worth £X a week more than Pritch? I am not sure. I would say that Pritch got turned inside out for the goal at Chasetown - he will admit that himself i am sure. But in saying that, i am pretty sure had Rudd, Ruffer, or even Booth been left one-on-one like Pritch was then it would have resulted in the same outcome. Pritch is going to get beaten in those situations - the bigger question is ‘where were the rest of the back four?’.
Going back to yesterday’s game; i don’t blame Gary in the slightest for us not having a sub keeper. It is very rare in recent memory that i can ever remember us having a keeper on the bench (other than Millie doubling up as keeper coach). I think it is only in FA Cup games that we have had a keeper on the bench. Money just doesn’t allow us the luxury of having a player on the bench who will only be called upon maybe once or twice a season - we have barely been able to have 3 outfield players on the bench at times this season!
Pritch has shown what a great club-man is his once again yesterday by donning the gloves. It shows great character, and a tremendous will to serve this football club. I think any manager should be glad - proud infact - to have a player and character like Pritch in their squad. I hope that Gary realises this and continues to treat Brian with the respect that he deserves to be shown. On ITV’s coverage of the pre-Christmas pantomime this afternoon i heard Johnny Allen being described as ‘Mr Northwich’ in respect of his 8 years at the Scum. Well Brian Pritchard has Witton running through his veins, and i hope that he gets further oportunities to demonstrate that between now and April.
Cheers Pritch for doing your best to bail us out once again yesterday. We are all very grateful for your continued presence at Our football club.
KTP (work that one out for yourselves )
Who the heck is looking through rose tinted spectacles?
Some former league players, in order to put themselves in the shop window as it were, do blummin great in non league!! The only reason not to have John Mcaliskey would be if we couldn’t afford him (a fan has funded his aquisition!!)
On the subject of giving local players a go yes I’m all for that, look at what happened over t’cut this afternoon! Haven’t yet seen Mr Broadhead play how is he doing?
Eli, I’m not suggesting a change at the moment, the reality is that the manager’s contract makes that pretty hard anyway. I wouldn’t make a knee-jerk reaction on this although we have played poorly for a number of weeks now. At the moment, like or it or not, the only thing on Gary’s current managerial CV is having taken us down. Personally I think the ‘jury is out’ and the situation would have to be considered seriously if we were dropping down the table come January, especially given some of the quality players in the squad.
What I am suggesting is that the manager needs to consider some of his decisions and has to create a harmonious squad and in the same way as we should not necessarily make knee-jerk reactions neither should he. For example stripping Booth of the captaincy and handing this to Rudd only created another problem, if the captain is a ‘sure pick’ for the team then in what position? Gary needs to look really closely at maximising the full potential of the squad we have, putting players in their correct positions and balancing the budget based upon value for money in the players we have, then systematically he can look to bring new faces in to improve key positions in the team.
Do I think Gary will do this, the answer is probably no. I think he is very much ‘his own man’ and whilst this is not necessarily a bad feature in a manager it worries me that at times this style and this determination can stray into a negative.
TWS, I stand by my previous statement in that your support to the club is exemplary and to contribute to the cause is a tremendous gesture. That said I think you and for that matter anyone else deserves to see their money spent wisely. John McAliskey will hopefully prove to be a good player and we have to give the lad a chance to show this. I believe however he has recently taken a long time (up to a year) out of the game to go traveling and I am not sure that as a club we actually watched him play before we signed him? I may be wrong and if so my apologies, but to be honest TWS it sharpens the need for the money to be spent wisely went it is coming directly from a fan. I had a look on google this evening to read some other comments on him and they don’t sound too complimentary from Wrexham fans http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A23655305 But I repeat, let the lad have a chance and lets see him work hard to show he really wants to play and how good he is.
Mauler and Eli are right too, let’s pad the squad out with two or three local lads who want to play football rather than pick up a brown envelope. The misguided fool in green yesterday shows what a young local lad is capable of, why don’t we have two or three like him who we are bringing on with coaching.
The reasons for asking questions is that I believe they are points of real debate, some will agree, others will disagree. Above all we want to see progress, togetherness and a season that concludes with promotion back to the NPL. Sometimes you have to shake the tree for the fruit to fall off!!! I would rather it was shaken now than get to March and be 12th in the league. Everyone needs to pull their socks up and really really focus on the job in hand.
I am all for the idea of local lads playing for us, but only if the Manager thinks it is the right thing to do. If I want to watch local lads play I can go to Moss Farm any Sunday morning. But the fact is our Manager does not think there are any loacl lads up to scratch at the moment and we have to live with that or get a new Manager, who will probably think and do the same thing. Things are not perfect but we are in a play off position and in the next round of the FA Trophy with £7,300 banked already, I honestly don’t think anyone could do better with the money available. I suppose we could always go into massive debt and hope for a good Cup run, but we don’t seem to have the luck or the contacts that another club, (not a million miles away) have.
WHS.
You have to beat teams like Congleton to have a FA Cup run WHS !
Easy if you spend £100,000 or so!!!
WHS.
Aha WHS you commented upon them across t’cut, thus breaking your “no comment” pledge!!
I never mentioned any names, plenty of clubs spend money they have not got.
WHS.
Eli’s point was that you have to make your own luck. We could have had a good cup run without going a penny into debt. Following the draw we would have had Congleton, Atherton LR, Frickley at home, Lincoln Utd, and then Cambridge Utd at home in the 4th Qualifier. We couldn’t beat Congleton and that’s not the fault of v*cs or Jim Rushe.
Thankfully we seem to have learned the lesson from that and are going about the FA Trophy in the right way.
yes we all know we should have beaten congleton, and prescot 2years ago and
winsford 3years ago.
but how do you make your own luck?. if i could make my own luck
i would win the lottery every week.
