Chester Expelled

Chester have been expelled from the Conference.

Feel sorry for their fans no where to go on a saturday for rest of season, maybe we should offer Chester City Season Ticket holders entry into Witton home games for a pound for the rest of the season or something.

Agreed, I would say charge them nothing should they wish to come. Unfortunately I doubt they have got that many season ticket holders, but ourselves and indeed others in the area should offer them free admission to help fill their Saturday afternoons.

v!cs have been offering season ticket holders of other clubs entry for a fiver and on their “dodgers v HMRC” forum there’s talk of them doing it again now for chester fans.

Can we not let them in for £4.00 ?

Let them in for nothing, and the Portsmouth fans and any other fans of clubs who go “Belly Up”. They will buy programmes, raffle tickets, chips, pies etc and may stay to become fans of our club, no bad thing. I may draw the line with Vics fans when they go the same way!!!

Nows the time to promote Witton Albion to Chester City fans, perhaps in the Chester paper.Offering them free addmision for rest of season, then promote, packages for next season,to there fans, and tap into any buissneses for advertising boards around the ground, get in first befor them o,er cut.

Why should Chester fans get in for free?

I think the sentiment is that if they have paid for a season ticket and won’t now be able to watch football, offering free admission is a gesture of solidarity. It would cost us nothing and we may well make more money through the bar or catering outlets.

If they bring their colours along, Tracey would have no problem identifying them when the bucket gets passed round…

I agree, can the club please post on thier forum to offer them (Chester season ticket holders, I’m sure there are more of them than our home gates!) FREE entry to our home games for the rest ot the season!!

Fair comment re spending money with us.
Just get Pete to frisk them for sandwiches

If it was us who were expelled would anyone want to go to watch Chester even if it was free ? Rather watch paint dry !

A great idea to let them in for free. It would show what a great club Witton is and may get a bit of publicity for the club.

I say let them in for free…but charge them a fiver to get out again!!!

I spoke to Mark Harris today, and he was already aware of the plight of the Chester City season ticket holders. I think he wants to look at it from all angles before making any announcements.

I think this has become a pointless debate now. Our own fans cant be bothered coming to watch us, so why do we think Chester fans would want to!!!

Chester fans, according to thier devachat forum, are going to watch all sorts of other games, even if none do actually come to WP it would surely be a “magnificent gesture by true foootball fans-as a poster on devachat said”.

Just in case you haven’t seen the press release here it is below. I’m sure all true football supporters will appreciate why we made this offer, but for the grace of God.

Witton Albion have extended the hand of football friendship to supporters of fellow Cheshire side Chester City to their remaining UniBond League Division One South league games at their Wincham Park home.

Albion, who remain in contention of at least a play-off position, are hopeful that many may take the offer up.

Football secretary Graham Shuttleworth explained: "It is without doubt the worse thing that could happen to any football supporter, and that is to see your club removed from whatever league you’re competing in. It must be a double blow to the supporters of Chester City after having enjoyed Football League status.

"We will be more than happy to allow any Chester supporter, who can produce a season ticket or can prove membership of their City Fans United organisation, free admission. Obviously we can’t offer them the same level of football as they’ve watched previously, but until such time as they can reform, in whatever shape and in whatever league that may be in, then they can keep in touch with the non-league scene, and at a good standard.

"To make sure that the younger element at Chester don’t miss their Saturday football match, anyone under 14-years-of-age who is accompanied by an adult can gain access for free also.

“As we’re hoping to at least be involved in the play-offs come the end of the season, I’m sure that they’ll enjoy the games that remain.”

The Wincham Park side, who moved to their ground some twenty years ago, also have the capability of hosting Conference level football, after playing host to their neighbours, Northwich Victoria, for a couple off seasons, as well as having enjoyed a spell in the Conference themselves, during which time they played in the FA Trophy Final at Wembley.

Albion chairman Mark Harris said: “These are sad times for a fantastic club in Chester City, and the least we can do is to extend the hand of friendship to Chester supporters who are now without a team to watch for the remainder of this season. They are sure of a warm welcome at Wincham Park.”

great gesture witton…well done…let’s hope we see a few around the ground tomorrow

From BBC Football;

Chester City fans choose new club name

Fans working to reform Chester City in time for the start of next season have decided on a new name for the club.

Following a vote organised by City Fans United the revived club will revert to the name ‘Chester Football Club’.

The decision revives the name that the original club carried until adding the word ‘City’ to their title in 1983.

More than 1,000 fans took part in the vote and chose the name ahead of other choices, City of Chester FC, Chester Rovers FC and FC Chester.

Chester FC polled 70% of the votes cast.

City Fans United spokesman Jeff Banks said: “The fans want to go back to the name Chester Football Club as that’s the name that everyone used to associate us with.”

Chester City were wound up at a High Court hearing earlier this month after failing to pay £26,125 in taxes.

They were expelled from the Football Conference in February.

The fans group hope to enter the reformed club in a lower league and still play their home games at the Deva Stadium.

Whenever they get a team together I hope we can arrange a friendly against them.

If and when Vics go bust they can reform under their old name, “The Arabs”!!!
