Tin pot cup.
Big game Saturday.
A bit late but never mind. The Witton line-up tonight showed a number of changes from Saturday’s game.
Matt Cooper returned in goal in place of Lee Jones, Scott Moffatt came in at right back for Matthew Holt, Brian Pritchard returned to partner Ian Kearney in defence while Ben Harrison led the forward line alongside Aaron Taylor. There was a debut for new signing Anton Bryan whilst Lee Pugh came back into the starting line-up. Andy Kinsey started on the bench while Peter Heler was rested.
Cooper, Moffatt, Wood, Pritchard, Kearney, Maguire, Bryan, MacPherson, Harrison, Taylor, Pugh.
Subs: Kinsey, Smith, Holt, Hamlett, Ennion.
Tin pot cup or not the managers tactics were not in line with his statement that it was his intention to go for all trophies this season. Kearney in midfield was just as non-effective as Kearney at fullback and playing one up front against a strong Chester defence was even less effective. Once Chester scored the game was all over as Witton had no plan B. The goal was similar to the winner at Witton and we just could’nt cope with corners and free-kicks all night. Kinsey came on too late to make an impact although Macca deserved his late consolation goal for his efforts throughout. New signing Anton Bryan failed to impress on his debut but probably needs more games. On the plus side we probably get a bit of cash in the coffers.
Saturdays game is much important as Dodger says !
Ben Harrison did not play upfront - he played alongside Pritch with Kearney in midfield !
Apologies for any confusion regarding the line-up. I took the information from the Chester website match report which appeared to give the line-up in numerical order.
Eli, not really sure what other line up you would have put out considering injuries etc?
Kearney is more than capable of performing a role in midfield.
Anton obviously needs to make his debut at some point, and i would prefer that to be last night than on Saturday.
Likewise Kinsey needs a rest at some point. I expect he has clocked up more minutes than the majority of the squad so far this season. At some point he needs a rest, would you prefer that to be last night or on Saturday? The last thing we can afford is for our leading scorer to pick up an injury, so i fully support the manager in resting him.
I expect Botham still isn’t available.
So i really don’t know how, other than Kinsey, we havent actually gone with our strongest available line up? You only have to look at the bench to see that we are stretched at the minute.
The only strange one is Heler being ‘rested’… He has just come back from holiday!!
Whats the point of having a reserve team if you don’t use games like this one to give them a chance !
Heler reported that he was injured according to the official match report !
I have one highlight from last nights visit to Chester and that is a song called Gravel Road i think Graham has more info
Must applaud Chester FC for the way they have reformed and they are putting much needed cash into the finances of the rest of the clubs in the league with their fantastic support.
There were some reservge players on the bench?
Don’t the first team lads deserve the opportunity to play at a stadium like Chester’s and infront of a big crowd?
I think Ogden has got it spot on here.
They will get their chance in the away league game ! Well some of them will Oggy has used 33 to date !
Of those 33, i’m not sure i would of liked us to have kept many of the ones who have moved on… So again, can’t argue with the manager.
