Club statement regarding Shaun Tuck

Witton Albion FC player Shaun Tuck was today sentenced to 12 weeks imprisonment for an offence relating to recent comments on Twitter. Witton Albion FC respects the court’s decision and will continue to liaise with the Football Association and its legal advisers before making any further comment.

I know Shaun Tuck is completely at fault and in the wrong, but I can’t agree with a 12 week prison sentence for his actions! A young mans life changed forever after this, gutted for him.

Jonny did you read everything he put on twitter?

Or go to court and hear all the evidence? If not how can you not agree with 12 weeks? Surely to come to a decision you’d need all the evidence. The court heard the evidence and his plea and came to the decision that a 12 week prison sentence was the outcome.

No mate it was removed before I saw it all, but come on prison for this is a very strong sentence, I totally agree with you that Shaun Tuck has been an idiot and completely in the wrong

We weren’t in court and didn’t hear all the evidence. Like I said on a previous thread this is a lot more serious than some people realised. He may have been made an example of but that’s the courts decision.

A courts decision doesn’t mean I have to agree with it, an example is exactly the way in which to label it! It’s just a shame that’s all the whole situation.

It is sad that it has come to this but the fact is we are living in very dangerous times. Inciting a riot whether pro or anti anything is a serious crime. At long last we have deported two men for their racist views and long may it continue, there are many more who need to be booted out, but the fact remains that the vast majority of Muslims are peaceful and law abiding and to advocate attacks on them is totally wrong. In the 1970’s the IRA were blowing up all sorts of targets, but that was no more the fault of the vast majority of the Irish community than it is the fault of the vast majority of the Muslim community now. Live and let live I say and chuck out ANYONE who advocates violence of any kind. Shaun Tuck is paying a high price for his comments but under the circumstances what other decision could have been made? I am proud of my country; despite incredible provocation there has been no massive backlash after this shocking crime, we have simply let the rule of law take it’s course. We set a wonderful example to all other nations and long may it continue to be so. As for Shaun I hope he has learned his lesson but I can see no way that he can continue to be a Witton Albion player.

I’ve remained silent on this issue throughout and let the whole matter pass through the legal system. Howver we are where we are with it, rightly or wrongly however can I just make one point. Let’s not allow this to divide this fantastic club. We all have opinions, some which are very much on different sides of the coin, but we all come together for a common cause, Witton Albion FC.

I’ve been with this club for 2 years now, working my backside off to ensure we are up there with the best, which is no less than this club deserves. Don’t allow this issue to undo all the hard work that has gone on to try and give you, the fans, a football team you can be proud of.

The world is a diverse place, where opinions differ about everything. It’s about respecting those opinions if not agreeing with them.

Let’s respect each others right to have their own thoughts on this, and pull together and get behind the lads. One player is not bigger than the club so let’s not let this issue destroy us. There’s too many FC United fans who are wanting to see that happen.

Well said Rabbit.

This is a sad period in WAFC life. Also must be sad time for Tuck .i think we all know him and he doesn’t actually present a real threat .But ,he is a plonker - we have known that with the reaction from Witton and other team fans when he signed last summer.Even back then,we were asked by the management to cut the Munich airoplane debate as it was counter productive ( and of course we did as requested - never mind freedom of speech which ironically is at the heart of this Twitter exchange).Accident waiting to happen since the day The gaffer signed him .just hope the gaffer realises its time to cut our losses, restore some pride in the team from the Help the Heroes stadium. And by the way ,how a one eyed blind geezer with a hook on his arm ,can spout anti British diatribe and get kept by the same country,is a joke.Tuck has done wrong but a bit of consistency wouldn’t go amiss

Agree with most of that but re the FC fans, it’s a minority who shout the loudest. One of the disadvantages of social media nowadays is that if even one or two people are vocal, it’s easy to assume that they are representative of the fanbase as a whole. For every FC fan on Facebook slating Witton, there will be 100 more who don’t share the opinion, but won’t be feeling the urge to post that.

well said mookie. generally speaking the fc fans are a good bunch, as the no segregation at the h4h stadium last season surely testifies. they like us just support their team, ain’t nothing wrong in that. i always look forward to games against them cos there is always a terrific atmosphere, as well as a cracking game.

I have to disagree Mookie, a lot of fcum fans dislike us and its not just down to Tuck, after the play off semi final at Gigg Lane a large number were blaming Witton fans for stealing their raffle money in the club (unfounded), for making racist remarks to a fcum supporter (unfounded) and making a mountain over Matty Wood attacking a ball boy?!! These comments were all over their forums and it snowballed into anti Witton feeling amongst a lot of fcum fans so when ST tweeted his tweets that day in May they were rubbing their hands with glee!
I have had my own run in’s with their fans on social media and theres a hell of a lot of them with anti Witton feelings, its not all about Shaun Tucks tweets!

Agreed there’s definitely more of them mate but then there’s more of them generally. I still think the majority of FC fans like and respect Witton but relations are in danger of being damaged due to the few shouting loudest.

These forums always seem to blow up during pre season when we haven’t got games to distract us

I think that some FCUM fans are just jealous of our club, our ground, our fantastic people and our history, something they don’t have much of. The vast majority of FCUM fans i’ve met have been absolutely sound, I guess any club with a following their size will always have a few idiots. Best off ignored imo.

A United supporter by any other name is a United supporter and they are the same as Vics supporters and you know what I think of them!!
