From the Bay …

THE Seagulls must travel to Witton Albion on Tuesday (Nov 1) for a replay after having a first half penalty saved and a second half goal unluckily disallowed for offside as they drew their FA Trophy home tie 1-1 (October 29).

Will Jones had shot narrowly over the bar from Gaz Burnett’s lay off early on and later hit the post with another effort, but the Bay had a great chance to take the lead when they were awarded the penalty on 21 minutes.
Danny Andrews broke through the middle before sending Tom Schofield clear and he was brought down as he tried to go round Witton keeper Danny Roberts.
The keeper was booked, but then redeemed himself by dropping to his left to save Luke Denson’s penalty.
Witton made Bay pay for that missed opportunity eight minutes later when they cut through the defence on the left and when Shaun Pearson could only parry Tom Owen’s close range shot, Steven Tames scored from the rebound.
Colwyn Bay, however, equalised seven minutes into the second half with an excellent header by WILL JONES into the far corner of the net from Louis Corrigan’s corner and they appeared unlucky not to go 2-1 up when Schofield, who had an excellent game in midfield, got the ball in the net from Gaz Burnett’s low cross following a free kick – only for the flag to go up for offside.
Neither side were able to get a shot on target in the closing stages with Rob Hopley heading his only chance over the bar, while Witton skipper Anthony Gardner had a shot deflected wide off a Bay defender from a corner.
Manager Paul Moore commented: “I’m disappointed we didn’t get the second goal and if the penalty had gone in then it is a different game. But overall I thought a draw was a fair result. They had the better of the first half and we had the better of the second and I thought it was a cracking cup tie between two good teams.
“They have been scoring a lot of goals in their league, but I don’t think they had a shot on target in the second half so there are signs that we are getting where we want to be.”
Kyle Armstrong picked up a knock and will need to be assessed before Tuesday, but the Bay will have Scott Bakkor available again after suspension and Michael Roddy is also available for the first time.
Colwyn Bay: Shaun Pearson, Luke Denson, Louis Corrigan, Gaz Grant, Tom Hardwick (c), Kyle Armstrong, Tom Schofield, Will Booth (Jack Kelleher 90 mins), Will Jones, Gary Burnett, Danny Andrews. Subs not used: Kieran Wolland, Liam Turner, Michael Pino, Shaun Dowling.
Attendance: 298

A fair review on the game but forgetting to mention the stonewall penalty on Rob Hopley in the first half not given and how atrocious the referee was ! overall a good end to end cup tie with over half the crowd from Witton. We were the best team first half for sure but I was happy to get a replay overall after we lost the initiative second half I thought by going 3 up front and giving away the midfield, what was Carl thinking ? I could not see the sense in first taking off Reeves and then Bauress when Owens was having a poor game and Tames was looking tired and to shift him later to right-mid made it only worse. More than a few were surprised at the subs/tactics today but we got away with it and live to fight another day. Would be nice to see Brown and Haywood back for Tuesday that would make us that bit stronger and with home advantage we could certainly beat them but they were no mugs - Schoey played well for them Danny was a bit quiet thankfully look forward to the replay UTA

£2,700 if we win, plus the gate money. That will help pay the bills.
WHS.

The ref was appalling, blatant penalty when Hopley was taken down. They’ve signed Kelleher who can score goals, was surprised he didn’t start. From the first half performance we could have easily beat them but they came back second half. We wasted our corners whilst they utilised theirs. Carl needs to do some work on these

Can’t make it on Tuesday so will eagerly be looking on here for updates
