As many of you know I’m a life long Alex fan who has lived in Northwich for 12 years and decided to watch the Albion 2 years ago for several reasons, the main being the brand of football on offer. Judging by the replica teamwear on show at the Central Ground, I’m not the only one.
An update at news from Gresty Rd; the board have finally seen sense and dispensed with the services of Steve Holland, former Youth Academy chief, who was promoted to First Team Coach when Dario Gradi became Director of Football in 2007. At the time Dario was the longest serving manager in the Football League, taking over at Crewe in 1983 when they were nothing less than a national embarassment.
Dario is now back as caretaker boss, overseeing last Saturday’s 3-0 reverse to Stockport. The vast majority of Crewe fans were glad to see the end of Steve Holland whose record over 2 seasons was uninspiring;
Season 2007-08. P46, W12, D14, L20, PTS. 9, Pos. 20th
Season 2008-09. P16, W2, D3, L11, PTS. 9, Pos. 24th
Relegation would have happened last season but for the off field problems at Luton and Bournemouth and subsequent points deductions.
Popular opinion in Crewe is behind the long overdue regime change with speculation rife as to who takes over. A major issue seems to be the continuing presence of Dario as Director; how much of a free rein would a new incumbant get?
Lots of names in the mix; Jimmy Quinn (lives in Crewe apparently), Steve Cotterill, Steve Davis (Nantwich Town boss) and my favourite for the role, Nigel Clough currently at Burton Albion.
