Cup decision

Gutted!

Well, this was expected. Everybody makes a mistake every day of their lives, so we musn’t be too hard, but clearly parties have not followed correct procedures. I didn’t attend the Curzon game, but I do hope an official apology is forthcoming to all supporters, and particularly, those brave souls that travelled for nothing ( apart from seeing some ultimately worthless goals…)

Shades of the 1980´s when Phil Spencer was played against his old club Runcorn and we were subsequently removed from the NPL CUP after wiining 3-0 at Canal Street.

However unlike this time around it wasn´t the beaten team that were affected it was FCUM so despite the fixture list they should be granted the opportunity.

Also why wasn´t this dealt with by the league official upon checking our match report sheet some weeks back now? That contained player´s full names and with the registration database facility then should have come to light a good deal earlier rather than have Curzon Ashton point it out.I therefore trust that someone in the league set-up has at least been censured

Completely expected.

The fact that FC United didn’t appeal the decision says it all, does anybody care that much about the Doodson cup?

If the league insist on adding two extra teams for next season, then surely the way this tournament is structured should be looked at. Along with league fixtures, F.A Cup, Trophy, Cheshire Senior Cup, Mid Cheshire Senior Cup and this, there’s just too many games!

Two things that immediately jump out at me here.

Firstly, had we not been drawn against Curzon we could have potentially gone on to win the cup, with Powell in the side, and nobody would have been any the wiser. Therefore serious questions marks over the league/cup management here.

Secondly, if we have been kicked out to protect the integrity of the competition, then you absolutely have to reinstate the wounded party - FCUM. To allow FCUM to “opt out” of reinstatement are you not therefore giving the green light for clubs to opt out of entering at all next season?

A much-derided competition has now been made to look completely amateurish.

Yes we made a very embarrassing mistake, which shouldn’t have been allowed to happen. But is this not one of the reasons that team sheets are provided and faxed to the league after matches?

Complete shambles, and we’re best off out of it.

When you sign a player from another club during the season, should it not be in writing as to whether the player has figured in any cup competitions prior to his transfer? Also, surely the player involved whoever it might be must know what games he has or hasn’t played in.
