I wasn’t there last night, but am intrigued to know why we went ahead and played a game that to all intents and purposes is irrelevant? Is it a case of ‘Good old Witton’ again?
The rules are there for all to see and playing an illegible player will and should result in one course of action-expulsion .
For the league to say play the game and we will decide later, is toothless and rather like your parents saying ‘We’ll see’ when you ask them for something.
From the match report two defenders got injured/withdrawn and another 90 minutes more on the clock for the squad - ‘Good old Witton!’
Must admit does seem like a pointless game to play considering we are out of the cup now, there is no other outcome than us being eliminated. Absolutely gutted as I genuinely believed we could have won this trophy! Would love to know the reason behind us playing the game?
Not sure what went on as I didnt go but the players and coaches’ jobs are to play the game. Probably from their point of view, playing the game and letting the league sort it out later was preferable to pre-empting a decision and going home. Tough call either way.
We can’t have any complaints if we do get booted out, but …
a) I think we were right to play the game anyway, it keeps the momentum going.
b) Maybe FCUM and Curzon won’t complain, they’ve both got play-off hopes too.
c) The League will want two contested SFs
d) Matlock away is winnable (as we’ve already proved)
e) It would be nice to have another crack at NFU!
"Following discussion and consideration by The Cups Committee on the morning of Monday 25th March 2013, the League can now confirm the following:
It was agreed that Witton Albion be removed from the Doodson Sport Cup Competition for Season 2012/2013 for having fielded an ineligible player namely Michael Powell, in a previous Cup fixture against FC United of Manchester on 19th February 2013. The player was deemed ineligible having already represented Curzon Ashton in a previous round on 27th November 2012.
The committee considered all options and deemed that as FC United of Manchester had not raised any objections following the fixture in which the offence occurred, they should not be reinstated and the Competition does not go back and re-play the previous round due to the time that has lapsed.
The decision was that, in order to maintain the integrity of the Competition, Curzon Ashton be reinstated to play Matlock Town in the semi-final tie to be held on Thursday 4th April."
Seems such a shame, as we were doing so well. And, having been thrashed 0-4 already, Curzon are hardly going to feel good about being in the semis by default.
Just can’t understand how we could have made such a simple administrative error by playing MP in the previous round - did he not think to let anyone know that he had already played for Curzon in an earlier round? And didn’t anyone at the Club think to check?
Shame but maybe a blessing in disguise as less games to play and the rest have quite a few yet even allowing for weeks extra extension.I am not sure if good money up for grabs ? But only Mid CHesh cup being a hinderence now so concentrate on maximising in the league !
