Derek Nuttall

Very sad to hear the news of Derek Nuttall who passed away last night, although a ‘Green’ Derek was a perfect gent, known him since the 1970’s

Really is very sad. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was the stress of what’s happening NVFC (a club that he devoted a huge part of his life to) that caused or at least played some part in his demise. Whilst there’s a lot of banter (and sometimes overly fierce animosity between fans), we need to remember there are good folks out here who have contributed a huge amount to the fabric of local football on both sides.

RIP Derek, always had a bit of Red/Green banter with him, the battle to survive looks a bit harder without Derek around for Vics.

I have been asked to post the following by Mark Harris - Chairman (Witton Albion Football Club).

Witton Albion is very sad to learn that Derek Nuttall, former secretary and chairman of Northwich Victoria, has passed away. We would like to extend our sincere condolences to Derek’s family, friends and colleagues alike at this difficult time. Football is so often partisan that it is easy to forget that everyone in non-league football shares a common passion and bond. Derek did so much for Northwich Vics during his long association with them, and will be very much missed. A true club man who should never be forgotten. RIP Derek.

Some people like me just talk about football and go to the odd game but people like Mr. Nuttall did so much more, okay, in my opinion for the wrong team but you cannot take away his wonderful record supporting HIS Football team. My condolences to all his friends and family.

I knew Derek very well from my time working at Parks Steelworks where he spent most of his working life and I was also at school with his son Chris. Derek and I always found a lot of common ground between us despite looking at football through different coloured lenses. We kept off Vics and Witton usually and talked about football in general or his other great interests, history and music. Sadly saw little of him in more recent years but just occasionally would bump into him and he was as nice as ever. I suppose it won’t hurt now but in my Parks days he would always buy a Witton lottery ticket off me in return for me buying a Northwich one off him. Neither of us ever won. There’s a metaphor for local football.

Witton Albion Football Club will be holding a minute’s silence before Saturday’s game as a mark of respect for Derek Nuttall who sadly passed away earlier this week.

Good decision.

Derek Nuttall’s funeral is to be held at:

Witton Church on MONDAY, 31ST OCTOBER - 12.45pm.

no disrespect to mr nuttall and his family but having a minutes silence for him yesterday was a bit too much.do you think the arabs would’ve done the same if one of our stalwarts had died.

It doesn’t matter if it happens at other clubs or not, it did happen yesterday to pay respect to a well known local football figure.
I for one am proud of our club for doing it.

I think it was the right thing to do and it reflects well on our club- what other clubs do is their business.

I heard yesterday that Mr Nuttall was one of the many influential figures at NVFC that vetoed our application to the Northern Premier league when we were the biggest club in Northwich (just like we are now) in the 1960’s/70’s. Absolute class from our club with an impeccably observed minutes silence yesterday. Some things in life are bigger than football.

No. To put the record straight, we were offered the chance to become founder members of the NPL in 1968 but declined it. In 1978 we applied to join, having changed our minds and Derek Nuttall spoke against it at the AGM. He didn,t veto it because he had no veto but it was still a shoddy thing to do and he went down in my estimation.Perhaps not the best time to rake over it though.
