Ware manager Glen Alzapiedi admits his side were caught with half an eye on next week’s FA Cup tie with Kidderminster following their 2-1 FA Trophy defeat by Burnham at The Gore on Saturday.

Ware failed to match their hosts in The FA Trophy second qualifying game, leaving Alzapiedi to rue his side’s poor showing. "Our performance was too subdued," he said. “The players were too aware of next week and we were caught napping. "Today was an important game but next week is massive for us."

The Ryman League Division One side host Kidderminster Harriers of the Blue Square Premier in the First Round of The FA Cup next Saturday, and Alzapiedi admits his side are basking in the media spotlight. "We enjoy the publicity,” he admitted. “As a side we are very aware that we can beat teams in higher leagues than us and this has given the players so much more confidence."

Ware’s excellent cup form has taken the focus off a stop-start league campaign, where they currently lie eighth in the table. Alzapiedi is hoping his side can find the consistency to charge up the league and push for a promotion place. "I am looking for us to come back to the league and bring our cup form with us,” he said. “We need to learn to play without fear."

Burnham, who sit top of the British Gas South and West League Division One, pressed hard but created few clear cut opportunities left Alzapiedi baffled as to how his side conceded twice. "We needed a cutting edge but didn’t finish well enough," admitted Alzapiedi. "They had perhaps only two chances and took them both, which is very disappointing." "Burnham are a very confident side, they tried to play football but for large spells we dominated."

Elsewhere in the FA Trophy, Gloucester and Hillingdon Borough shared a six-goal epic at The New Lawn. Team Bath edged a thriller at Chesham, the visitors won the game 5-3 to advance to the next round. Farnborough could not continue their impressive league form against Windsor and Eton, losing 3-1 at Cherrywood Road.

Witton Albion stunned hosts Stocksbridge Park Steels with a thumping 5-2 victory at The Look Local stadium.

I’m guessing the draw will be around lunchtime monday again?
