Don’t know whose idea this was but it cost us money as regular supporters took advantage of it. It was a good job some games were cancelled in January.
On the subject of admission charges, the Chasetown fans were appalled when they saw what we charged. If we are in this league next season ( heaven forbid ) how can we justify to continue to keep the charges so high ?
It was the Chairmans idea and a board decision - its a case of damned if you do, damned if you don’t at Witton.
The club have to try some sort of initiative to try and generate interest, if regular supporters choose to use it and it means they bring their children then so be it.
Re. The Admission price - we are high,(too high for the league we are unf. in) but we also have the best facilities/stadium in the league to maintain.
Saturday made a change because there were actually some away supporters to moan for a change (Those that paid anyway).
As someone who regularly attends games, and sometimes brings my child, i wouldn’t personally even consider using a voucher to get in for a fiver - i would hope it would be used by people who don’t normally bring a child, or don’t attend games on a regular basis.
Is there a suggestion that people are using the voucher without even bringing a child along?
As fans of our Club we need to support ideas such as this one rather than ‘taking the pi55’. We keep on saying that we need to see greater numbers through the turnstiles so we can afford to bring in better players - but then when the board tries something new to get some of the ‘floaters’ coming back, or tries to get more kids down so that we have a future generation of Wittoners coming through, then people seem to take advantage of it.
As it turned out, with the Xmas program being wiped out, and the team failing to build up any momentum, then we wouldn’t have seen the full benefit of the scheme at this point in time anyway. I would certainly say though that it is something worth considering again later in the season - to perhaps boost the gates during a potential promotion push. However, we can’t even consider schemes such as this if it is only going to cost the Club money rather than providing any short or long term benefit.
Come on guys, let’s support the board when they try things such as this rathet than trying to save ourselves a couple of quid. At the end of the day, we want the Club to progress or we wouldn’t bother turning up at all.
Less than 10 over the 2 games and I never saw any new faces. Yes - there was 1 who used it without a child - but then the child probably better off not experiencing a Witton game at the present time - could put you off football for life.
I think we have been victims of circumstance a little bit with the timing of this iniative. If it can be properly supported in future (without people using the voucher whilst not even bringing a child), then i definately think that we should try it again in future.
Agree with Chad, damned if you do or if you don’t. I think the board’s desire to stimulate the attendance is a good one. The thinking is that you might sell a programme, pie or pint which directly or indirectly benefits the club. It also is good that this is in conjunction with the Guardian.
I would want to see more initiatives like this and not less.
It isn’t just a problem we’ve got. Non-League teams across the country are chasing higher gates. I can’t help but get the feeling that there isn’t enough ‘younger’ supporters coming through the turnstiles and that will cause huge problems in the future. I’d hate to see the club fall into the same position as Winsford United are these days. It seems the people of Northwich really do not care about the town’s 2 teams… A huge shame.
I wonder if the individual who used the voucher without actually bringing a child could be shamed in to making a donation to the Development Fund as way of an apology?
