FANS INFORMATION MEETING

7.00 for 7.30

From all accounts a very constructive meeting.

As TT said very constructive meeting, joining the board and i thought Mark and Nige answered the questions well that were put to them.

Sounds good on the board front thats waht we need more off 2 or 3 local business men each putting in a small amount that way if one pulls out we won’t be up the creek without a paddle.
Lets hope he can help with the off the field developments and get some buzz, interest and money around the club.

Can anyone provide a rough summary of what Nigel said about the team, future etc?

Nige recognised all of the areas of the team that needed to be improved. He let Gary Burke go last night and Gary understood completely why that was, but his departure was amicable and professional by both parties.

He also suggested that another couple of players may be released in the coming days/week as he had now seen enough to judge them. It is important that players get sufficient games in which to make an impact.

The club has received a couple of 7 day notices of approach from other clubs regarding players, but Nigel was confident that if it was right for the player and the club they would stay. This is a danger with players not under contract however equally having them under contract limits choices regards bringing new players in.

Nige feels it is important that we keep a settled formation as that is one of the problems in recent weeks. He believes that 4-3-3 is primarily the way for us to play at the moment with the players we have, using Rueben or Ross in wide right/left position.

He was keen to stress that the midfield need to do more to help out the defence. He still feels we are maybe four or five players short and is continuously looking for what we need, adding that he has spoke to North West Counties players earning £120/£140 a week which he considers to be ridiculous (can’t argue with that)!

Nige also said that Ben Thornley had offered the play for free if it makes a difference to the budgets as he is not at Witton for the money, an offer that I understand has also been made by other members of the side.

In addition to Nige’s comments last night I would add;

Nige is completely focused on the job in hand, under no illusion of what is required and is working every day on improving the team and the results.

It is also worth bearing in mind (and this is not something that Nige chooses to mention) that he holds the UEFA Pro A Licence which is the top standard for football coaching in the game and required qualification to manage in the Premiership! I just thought I’d mention that as there are not too many as qualified in the Unibond game!

In short, let’s back this man to do his job as he is/will continue to give 100% week in week out!

Yeah no denying Nigel’s fantastic coaching skills and his dedication to the job. I just feel he needs better back up from his number 2 maybe from someone with more extensive contacts and experience.

Anyway that’s just my opinion for what it matters. I don’t think any decision will be made for a while (if any) on this area anyway so I suppose all we can do is support the current managment and hope we turn the corner soon.

Thanks for the the precis Si.
United we stand.

i am getting the feeling that this website is for the chosen few who think deeley can do no wrong the sooner we get a experinced manager the better or do i have to come back at the end of the season and said i told you so

No matey, it is like the ‘Three Musketeers’
ALL FOR ONE AND ONE FOR ALL
We are Wittoners,we fight together and united we stand.
The chosen few are the life line of our club and let’s not forget that.

Well said Vi8

Feel quite free to come on here at the end of the season and say whatever you wish, it is a forum afterall where people express their views and opinions - and if people don’t do that then there is no point in it existing.

There are plenty of people on here who have been criticising Nigel’s work so far, and there are also those who have been praising it and/or backing him. But that is each individual’s choice, and just because views differ then it does not mean that anybody is right or wrong.

The fact is that at the point at which he was appointed then Nigel was the ONLY real candidate for the job. With that in mind then perhaps it is a little premature to turn around after a dozen games and now decide that he ISN’T the right man for the job. Personally, at this moment in time i am reserving judgement. I have my own concerns about certain aspects of the way the team is playing - some of these i raised at the meeting on Thursday, and some of them i spoke to Nigel about personally afterwards.

The main positive i took from speaking to him was the determination and desire that he has to succeed for this Club. To me that is something to take great heart from. He will not walk away if he thinks that there is anything more that he can give - we wouldn’t necessarily get the same commitment from other managers. He told me that he is fully aware that he has made mistakes, and that he knows he will continue to make mistakes in the future (as would ANY manager of course), but for him he knows that at least he is doing this for the right reasons, and he will ensure that the Club is protected no matter what. He wont bleed us dry, and he wont screw us over. If he fails, then he does so with the very best intentions. And after the way certain people have let us down over the last few months, then to me that means a lot.

So, yes, things haven’t been great lately. The team is not performing. But there is no guarantee that bringing another manager in would suddenly drag us up the table. The fact is that Nigel is the man in the dugout at the moment, so until that changes then by all means voice your opinions, but it is VITAL that we give him our support.

Your best post for some time Robbo.

Thank you. I’m here all week!

ROBBO is bound to get a good post eventually as i am bound to get a bad one eventually too.

I personally left the meeting in a more positive mood than I have been in for some time.

It is evident that huge amounts have work have been going on to stabilise the club on and off the field. The addition to the board could yet prove to be the most significant signing this season. The willingness of the new board member to join at this time speaks volumes - its probably far easier to get some one to join when the team is flying - so we can only be grateful that he thinks we have the potential to warrant his investment and involvement. Thank you.

This also enables us to build without the fear of having to continually slash the wage bill and create a desperate downward spiral.

So that sets the tone for the rest of us - lets get behind the staff and team and you never know where it might end. (I think) I heard this week ththat this time last year Hull were 17th in championship - look where they are today !

We are in it for the long haul so let the battle commence!

Erm, if i can just draw your attention back to TT’s post, he said that it was my BEST post for some time. There was no suggestion of any of my posts not being good in general…

And as for your posts, well i’m glad you’ve found your way onto this site and not those other ones there have been rumours of you frequenting…

We are a little club battling to survive in a little league. Nigel is doing his utmost as are the board. The big questions for me are where are we going? What is the vision for the club? How do we become a hub for the community? Can the town support two football clubs?
