FIXTURE CHANGE

Leek Town AWAY - TUESDAY, 6TH DECEMBER - Postponed

Due to Leek’s involvement in the Staffordshire Senior Cup.

The fixture will be re arranged and confirmation of the new date will follow.

Due to Witton’s progress in the Buildbase FA Trophy yesterday, the scheduled Evo-Stik Division One South fixture on Saturday, 26th November at home to Rugby Town, is likely to be postponed and re arranged for a later date.

The following two Evo-Stik League Division One South Fixtures have been postponed.

Rugby Town HOME - SATURDAY, 26TH NOVEMBER - As we are involved in the Buildbase FA Trophy.

Leek Town HOME - TUESDAY, 29TH NOVEMBER - This is the scheduled date for a replay should one be needed.

so just to be clear - the Leek Town game has ALREADY been postponed, even though we don’t know that there will be a replay needed for the FA Trophy Boston fixture? Seems a bit premature to me.

That is my understanding.

we are falling further behind in the league (5 games 11 point behind Newcastle) and we have the 29/11/16 6/12/16/13/12/16 with no fixture will the teams above us have games. at this rate we could 18 to 20 points adriff this side of Christmas ( and that’s before the bad weather) .why are the league allocating games to teams who have played more than us and giving us 3 Tuesdays with no game ( this could cost us the league)

Can you check that please Wheels - I think it will be postponed IF a replay is needed

The Evo-Stik League website is showing the Leek fixture for Tuesday, 29th November as postponed.

Andrew Simpson has posted on Twitter that the Leek game has been postponed because they are in League Cup action, not because of a potential replay for us.

They’re playing Hednesford in the Integro Doodson League Cup First Round.

Of the four teams currently above us, Newcastle and Chasetown play on 29/11 and Spalding play on 6/12. None of the teams play on 13/12.

I very much doubt the league are allocating games to the teams above us and not Witton. These games will have been on the original fixture list at the start of the season.

Whilst it is not helpful to be a number of points behind with games in hand, this has happened to us before in the opposite direction. We were top by a long way for most of the season before Fleetwood came through to win the title in the 2007-08 season.

chasetown play on 13/12/16 along with leek /belper ect who are on 3 point behind .don’t want be playing 3 games a week at the end of season. just find it funny there is teams we can play on those 3 days.better point in the bag than games in hand than the lads not playing .just my opinion .UTA

Don’t know what the fuss is about, it is not as if we have to play three times in a week. We just cut training as it is not necessary when we have a midweek fixture. For God’s sake these are fit young men not old dodderers like me!!
WHS.

Thanks Thomas - that makes more sense. So the fixture against Leek has been cancelled because of their commitments and it just happens to be the date of any replay.

I’m glad that is all sorted and clarified now although I will say that the way it came across to me was a little misleading. The information about Leek having to play in a League Cup tie didn’t actually come out until afterwards and it certainly wasn’t on the league website until later.

It certainly will be a worry if we get to far behind. It’s ok saying we’ve got games in hand but if this becomes five or six games this would put a lot pressure on the team if we have to win all of them to stay in touch.
It certainly pays to have the points in the bag, as someone has previously mentioned we don’t to be playing three games a week come March and April.

As a twenty year old I regularly played on a Saturday morning in the College league, in the afternoon in the Central Cheshire League and on a Sunday morning for Church Inn and I know dozens of lads who played Saturday and Sunday for years. Playing keeps you match fit better than any training session.
When you are young you NEVER get tired of playing. It was only when I had to work on a Saturday that I stopped playing on both days.
WHS…

If we are going for promotion which looks more and more likely then its essential we don’t fall to far behind.
The pace and intensity at which this team play will have a massive effect on the energy levels of the players irrespective of how
young or fit they are.
Not only will it have a physical effect but it will mentally tiring as well.
If you play to many games in a short period the minor knocks players pick up do not get time to heal which ultimately
hinders performance…
No manager at any level would like to be playing three times a week and at semi pro level the added aspect of the players full time jobs is another factor
which has to be taken into consideration

Who said anything about playing three times a week? We are in two major cup competitions that is all and there is no guarantee we will be in either after Christmas. Winning can become a very nice habit. Win all you can and worry about fixtures later is what I say. Apart from anything else this cup run will boost league gates and I am sure the players would rather play than train.
WHS.

AFC Rushden & Diamonds v Witton on 10th December is OFF, but we should still have a game.

If we beat Boston on Tuesday, we are at home to Chester in the next round. (V*cs v Belper moves to Sunday)

If Boston is postponed, we will try to play it on the Saturday at home. (V*cs v Belper moves to Sunday)

If we draw with Boston, we are away to them in the replay.

If we lose to Boston, we will travel to Basford in the league.
