Fleetwood get Peers

Do we have a team left???

Deeley: Peers will join Warlow

MARK Peers is set to sign for Fleetwood Town.

Nigel Deeley told the Guardian today, Monday, that Witton would receive a transfer fee for the winger’s services.

“It’s more or less done and dusted,” said the Albion boss.

“This time last week it did not look like it was going to happen but following some fantastic work by Mark Harris a deal has been agreed.”

Deeley added that the fee would remain undisclosed, but Albion have insisted on what he described as a ‘lucrative sell-on clause.’ Peers will join recently departed Adam Warlow at the Conference North outfit, who pipped Witton to the UniBond Premier Division title last season.
'We wanted Mark to stay and made no secret of that"
Nigel Deeley

“We wanted Mark to stay and made no secret of that,” added Deeley.

"However once he made it clear he wanted to leave then we fought for the best possible deal.

“Hats off to the chairman for doing that.”

Peers, 24, scored 17 goals in league and cup last year - his best goal return in three years at the Wincham Park club.

He made more than 100 appearances in that time.

The winger signed a new one-year contract with the club at the end of last season but decided his future lay elsewhere after Jim Vince walked out as manager.

There has been no official word yet from Fleetwood on the move.

1:00pm today

I thought Peers had gone to Hollyoaks as the new doorman at The Loft nightclub! Either that or its his twin brother!!

He’ll need to be more consistent playing in a higher league. It will be harder for him and Warlow and they will not be hero worshipped like they were at Wincham Park.Fair dos if we got a fee for him then at least we’ve not lost out!!

From the Fleetwood website:

Mark Peers signs for Fleetwood Town:
17/06/08 11:00

We are delighted to announce that we have agreed terms with Witton Albion winger Mark Peers. Once the formalities have been completed in the next couple of days, Mark will join forward Adam Warlow in making the move to Highbury from last season’s Unibond League title rivals.

Mark made in excess of 100 appearances for Witton and last season, he scored 17 goals for Albion and made countless more for his free scoring colleagues. He is a player we have tracked closely for some time and Manager Tony Greenwood commented “Mark is a hugely exciting signing and yet again, we have shown that we do not intend merely making up the numbers in the Blue Square North”.

Town have paid an undisclosed fee to Witton for Mark’s services.

Oh well!

oh dear

As Liam is under 24, do we get any compensation for him?

Good point thatch, we must be entitled to some compensation as we got some for Warlow who left in a similar way:unsure:

Depends what you view as bad news. All the best to Liam if he gets his move to the Conference, it’s a great chance for him to progress his football career and earn some decent money in the process. For us as a club, it gives us an exciting opportunity to unearth more players like Liam Brownhill and continue to fill our new look team with players that want to play for the club

As I seem to be taking the brunt of this - despite trusting a former colleague to ensure the correct paperwork was signed - and despite going on holiday when I obviously should have been around to deal with Witton stuff - I’ve completely and utterly had enough.

At 3pm today I resigned.

I will still support the team but solely as a speccie.

GE

Graham,

We don’t point the finger at you…NO WAY.

We appreciate the the hard work you do for Witton Albion. Not only on match days, missing most of the match whilst you go around the ground raising funds with the half time draw, but more importantly, all the work you do behind the scenes during the week. I know last Thursday, you missed the MCDFA AGM, because you were hard at it trying to solve our problems. You were still at Witton at 11:00pm at night, when I saw you come out of a meeting, which must have been going on for 3 or 4 hours.

I hope every poster on this site comes on this thread and seconds what I have to say which is “Graham, we cannot afford to be without you. Please re-think your decision to resign once you have calmed down. I understand your anger with what is being stated in the Guardian, and I am sure that what was printed, is not what was intended to be said. We know all to well where the blame lies…don’t you dare take any of the blame!!!”

Great post Jeff, I’ll second that.

Graham, please reconsider. I can’t help but think that your loss to the club would be worse than that of Mike or our former manager.

We can’t do it without you Graham!

For me this is the sadest news off all this summer alongside that of Mike resigning. Its been mentioned elsewhere that players come and go, next season we will have a totally new squad but Witton ALbion FC will still carry on. But it’s people like Graham who keep the club going working all those unpaid hours and doing all those extra things that need doing for the club to survive.

A huge loss to Witton and I hope that you will reconsider GE! For one thing we won’t get the same amount of communication from the club as your always the 1st on here telling us of new signing’s etc!

Graham no one blames you for what has happened. This will be the biggest and saddest loss to Witton Albion FC for a very long time. Please reconsider.

Graham

The fans don’t blame you for this one bit - please don’t stand down! You do such brilliant work for the club, we’d be in real trouble without you.

Graham,

Re-consider, you are witton through and through and a vital part of our club.

I second the posts from Thatched Tavern and Greg.

Under no circumstances should Graham depart this football club. The fans are 100% behind him and I think we all know the guilty parties when it comes to the way the club has been ran previously. There are people that gained trust from fans who did not deserve it and there is no way on earth that GE should be a victim of the appalling behaviour of others.

I would TRUST Graham with every aspect of administering this football club and consider him to be Mr Witton.

GE needs to reconsider his position in the cool light of day and like everyone else refuse to be beaten by the actions of others. This football club has survived for more than 100 years and will continue to do so. I personally am determined that GE should be part of the next chapter.

I respect Graham’s decision but reject it on the grounds it has been made.

I have spoken to the Chairman this afternoon and he is equally as unwilling to accept it. Graham has the support of everyone involved, fans and directors alike.

Seconded from me the loss of Graham to Witton would be worse than all the players that have left put together!

We love you Graham and need you!

I have kept off the site for some time hoping that my silence would be benificial to the Club as I seem to have a knack of getting up people’s noses. But I feel I must comment now. The loss of any player is sad, but the loss of people like GE and Mike Worthington is a disaster. These people, unlike myself and others, are Witton through and through. Witton is in their blood, other things will always take second place. I urge GE and Mr. Worthington to continue their hard work within the club or I fear the club will start to disintergrate from within. You hard core fans ARE the Club, it is vital for it’s future that you continue to give of your time, effort and money to ensure Witton is stll there when my grandson is old enough to become a true Wittoner like his father. You all know I am not what is described as a “Football Fan” the European Championships are passing me by without my watching one match so far, but I am a Wittoner, I cannot be anything else, it was bequethed to me by my Mum and her sister, Queenie. It is for that reason I will continue to put money into the club, not thousands but a small contribuition every week as I have done for the last four or five seasons. My commitments elsewhere stop me from doing more.
So please all you marvellous lunatic fans, pull together and stop having a go at each other, leave the bickering to Vics, they will soon be at each others throats as usual when these new fellas lose interest.
WHS.

Am away at the moment, but GE now is not the time to step aside, lets have an honourable U-Turn on this please.
