Flint Town United vs Witton Albion (PSF).

Witton’s latest pre season friendly takes them into Wales when they travel to Flint Town United on Tuesday night.

The Silkmen as they are known, have begun their preparations for the new season in fine form winning both of their friendlies so far. Their first pre season game was meant to be against Vauxhall Motors but that fixture didn’t go ahead.

Their two wins so far have been away at Whitchurch Alport where they came out on top narrowly in a 2-1 success and that was followed up by a 3-1 win against Marine at Marsh Lane. Following the game against the Albion, they have one further friendly at the weekend where they travel to Widnes, before the new season begins.

Witton can take confidence from Saturday’s success against Northwich Victoria in the Vijay Anthwal Memorial Trophy, a game which allowed them to give extra minutes to squad players and also have another look at potential new additions as we get closer to the start of the new season.

There have been links between the two clubs in the past by way of personnel but in the current Flint squad, only midfielder Mark Cadwallader has connections with the Albion following a loan spell at Wincham Park in 2010. Club captain Richard Foulkes another former Witton player has recently moved to Vauxhall Motors after a long spell in Wales.

Flint Town United’s new season gets underway on Friday, 6th August when they take on Bala Town in the League Cup. Ironically, The Lakesiders were originally going to be Albion’s opponents that weekend. But due to their League Cup involvement that fixture is now not taking place.

Witton will be looking to continue with the progress already made ahead of the new campaign but they will face a really tough challenge from the Welsh Premier League side.

Kick Off at The Essity Stadium is 7.45pm.
