Football Performance Centre.

An announcement has been made today by Cheshire FA that the new “Football Hub” will be based at the former golf course at Knights Grange in Winsford.

The site will include a 3,000 seater stadium and other facilities including 3G pitches.

Aha, this will enable a swift return to their hometown for 1874

I am probably missing something here - but I would love to see the business case for this development and the projected revenues.

St George’s Park works because it is a major administrative centre for the FA and all the associated FA courses, as well as providing a base for the English national teams at all age levels. Who exactly is going to pay for all the activities at the new centre ?

There’s talk of a Women’s Super League team playing there - but (I understand) WSL attendances average less that 1000. No where near enough to support a facility the size of St George’s Park.

I only hope that amid all the excitement, a sound business plan has been developed and this doesn’t become a crushing white elephant for the ratepayers of Cheshire.

Oh Dear what a shame LOL Still they could become lets see ! “1874 Winsford quite near Northwich” Its Got a certain ring to it.

Its got a few on the 1874 forum into a bit of a tiz. Some are trying to put a brave face on it, but I get the feeling that a permanent home in Winsford is a step too far for some. Me thinks they won’t go there

From Winsford Council view point it would make a lot of sense to relocate Winsford United there and they can then sell Barton stadium (I think the council own the site), which is quite a large plot for housing. It’s double edged for them they get the capital from the land sale and then future income why wouldnt you look at it and of course for a team already in Winsford, with a Winsford name it makes perfect sense. For a team named 1874 NORTHWICH it makes no sense whatsoever, it seems like whoever put out the statement is covering there backside, for it to say move to a mid cheshire site is just silly and if I were a fan I would be 100% against it.

Just watched a piece on BBC North West and they had a reporter there. It said they reckon it will be ready in two years.

Lots of hype, but who pays?
