Free bus to Witton

Can anyone give more details on the free bus service from Town to the ground starting this Saturday.
All i have heard so far is its departing from opposite the bus station every 15 mins from 1 30 onwards but opposite the bus station is the derelict council office on the busy one way system?!
It then picks up from the Witton Chimes before heading to the ground but is it an Arriva bus? A coach? A mini bus?
I think it’s a brilliant idea and im intending on using it on Saturday as hopefully many others are too so it would be nice to find out what and where to get on

Hi Matt Cat - the minibus will start outside the Brio leisure centre in the laybye opposite the bus terminus. Unfortunately that is the only place we can pick up, and it means the bus then has to go round the one way system which is a pain but unavoidable. The bus will then stop outside the Chimes, and the driver will pop into the pub with a Witton Albion sign. It will work a ferry service between 1.30 and say 2.45, (each journey will take about 15 mins round trip). After the match it will pick up on the road opposite the Social Club entrance from 5.15 until 6.15 again on a ferry service. Initially it will be an 8 seater, with provision to call for a second vehicle if needed. Please don’t leave it until the last minute though - you can see the picture eg 25 people wanting to jump on the bus at 2.45. This service will continue until end of September (no night match service), and then decision made whether to increase, amend or cancel the service dependent on how many use it. Most of you will now have received the leaflet, so bring that along with you to take advantage of the 1 adult/2 kids (up to 14) for £10.00. Don’t forget to take it back home so you can use it regularly. Hope to see the bus and the offers taken up by as many as possible. Any questions, please advise.

The minibus by the way will have Witton Albion stickers in the front, rear, and back windows, so will be easily visible. Please note the driver will not pick up or drop anywhere else except the terminus, Chimes and the stadium. Hope to see you tomorrow.

great that is, I certainly will be using it. Save a fortune on taxi fares. See you in the Chimes UTA.

Planning on watching United in the Chimes and then getting either the 2.30 or 2.45 bus to the game.

Cheers for organising this.

Watch a bunch of foreigners on massively inflated wages then go and watch a real football match where most if not all the lads are British and vastly under-paid.
WHS.

Thanks for the info I know plenty of people who have said they will use it and as the Social Club dj i will be catching the 1 30pm so im in place at the club before it gets busy.
Just one suggestion would it not be easier with the one way system to just have the one pick up from outside the Chimes rather than the Brio lay-by as it’s only a short walk from there anyway and the bus could turn right at Lidl and save going all around the one way system?

does the bus pick up on the witton st bus stop or venables rd?

Used the free bus service last Saturday and it worked really well , Hopefully it will continue and more fans will take up the offer. well done whoever organized it. :clap :clap :clap

I’ll try and answer all your points. First of all, sticking my neck out and are going to organise a bus for the Alty game (even though it’s not a Saturday). I’m glad of the positive feedback, and hope it grows in popularity and numbers through the turnstiles. The initial thoughts behind it were to attract people who couldn’t get to WP any other way (mainly older and younger folk and in-betweeners with no access to a car). The thinking was for them to use bus passes to the terminus and then the free transport to the stadium and back. Having said that it’s also a gesture to the loyal fans who come week in week out, and support the Albs win, lose or draw. We are quite happy for you to use the service from the Chimes, but we need to keep the terminus option open hoping for some “new” supporters. Unfortunately most of the leaflets were not delivered in time for the first home game so the pick up at the terminus was wasted to be fair, but they will have been done before the Alty match. The other offers in the leaflet hopefully will also be taken up by new supporters. Either way, terminus/Chimes or preferably both will please the Board and boost attendance figures, and also keep you faithful supporters ongoing. Hope that’s answered everything, if not please comment

No sorry Postyred. We need to keep collection points to a minimum, so the price (to us) doesn’t increase. So basically the pick ups are Terminus/Chimes/stadium and return. The whole system will be reviewed in time, and extended, amended or cancelled dependent on how many use it.
