Witton travel to third-placed Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday in an Evo-Stik Premier Division fixture. The Lincolnshire side were relegated from the National League North at the end of last season, their first relegation in the club’s history. They have made a strong start to their campaign and have assembled a very strong squad under the guidance of former Altrincham & Farsley Celtic manager Lee Sinnott. Their playing personnel strengthened by a number of experienced players and also a large contingent of recruits from the now defunct Shaw Lane AFC. They have only suffered one home defeat from seven home games in the league so far this season but Witton did however, put in a very strong performance during a goalless draw at Wincham Park earlier in the season. It will probably take another performance along those lines if Witton are to keep up their recent good form. The game represents Witton’s first visit to Northolme since the 1996/97 season a season which saw Witton relegated and Trinity went in the opposite direction following the changes to the football pyramid. Kick off at The Gainsborough Martin & Co Arena is 3pm.
