Gateshead v Witton

That is a tremendous result, arguably the most difficult fixture of the run-in. We must ensure that we approach the other games with the same attitude.

Well done to Jim, Nige and the boys, plus all the fans that travelled up there, gutted to have missed it.

I think someone needs to tell the engraver that there are two 'T’s in Witton, just in case he is starting to sharpen his tools!!!

Chris, your dad’s not posted for a while, may be worth giving him a call to check he is still with us!!!

That was horrible - my internet connection dropped out all evening and only just came back on. Awesome result!

Great result! Well done lads!
Closer and closer to the title now…

WHS is probably sweating on the Spurs match. Some people are still interested in second rate professional football played by foreigners for clubs owned and managed by foreigners. I gave up on all that lot when Forest went into League One…Conference North is where it’s at.

All together now

E - I - E - I - E - I - O …

By the way, if we beat Guiseley on Saturday then we are guaranteed the play-offs!

(Unless Guiseley can make up the goal deficit of 32)

More difficult games to come after tonight - Marine and Guiseley are the only two beneath the play-offs still will a chance. It is all about focus, as JV has said before these are all cup finals until the end of the season.

After Guiseley and Marine, 5 of the last 6 games are all at home, still feel this will be crucial, our home form has been unbelievable, midway through March and we have only dropped two points at home and still unbeaten!!!

EIEIEIO!!!

Only one thing to add really… ‘we’re proud of you…We’re proud of you…we’re proud of you…we’re proud…!!!’

AWWWWWWWWWWWWSOME

Team gave 100%, fans gave 100%, the team totally controlled the first half, the fans dominated the stands. Second half, after subs came on, sat back a little but held them comfortablely, what did get through, JK was faultless, Every player, ran , hustled and bustled, didnt let gateshead settle. Tactics spot on, result spot on.
Support was large and VERY loud. Well done to all

To all the lads who never miss a game.
I could not be more pleased for you, you deserve it. At long last you can look those Vics fans in the eye knowing for certain Witton are the superior team at long last. When I was growing up we were the strongest of the two, it is high time we took that place again, and this time, keep it. Congratulations to the team, but players come and go, you lads are there forever.
WHS.

I can safely say no-one has ever been quite as excited about a txt from Neil as I was at FT last night!!! Get in!!!

What a result. The fans were great, the players were great, the night was great.

Say we are albion, say we are albion…

Gateshead 0 - 2 Witton Albion - 12.03.2008

Gateshead crashed to only their second league defeat of the year on Wednesday with a 2-0 defeat to champions elect Witton Albion at the International Stadium.

The Tynesiders went down to a goal in each half from Witton who cemented their place at the summit of the division.

The visitors could have taken the lead in the opening moments of the game when a quick throw from the left released Thornley who shot from the edge of the box only to hit the inside of the post and Carl Jones was on hand to clear.

On 12 minutes a ball through to the league’s leading marksman Adam Warlow saw the striker hit a powerful shot that was well saved down low by Musselwhite in the Gateshead goal with the ball going behind for a corner.

Seven minutes later and Witton were ahead when a cross from the right found Brownhill in the area and the left-back fired an unstoppable shot in to the roof of Musselwhite’s net.

Just before the half hour mark Gateshead could have equalised when a central ball from Kris Gatw found Paul Brayson however the former York City man could only guide his effort in to the arms of the Witton keeper.

Half Time: 0-1

Gateshead started the second period brightly and Brayson nearly pulled the hosts level when a short corner saw Gate cross and the striker saw his effort cleared off the line.

Despite a good share of posession and plenty of balls in to the visitor’s box Witton were still dangerous and doubled their lead on 54 minutes when McPherson was on the end of a decent cross to fire home from just inside the area.

With Gateshead probing for a reply James Curtis delivered a dangerous ball on the hour mark however the defender’s cross evaded everyone and disappeared out for a goal kick.

With 18 minutes remaining a rare mistake from the Witton defence allowed Southern to pass to substitute Jamie Harwood who created space and fired a good low efforth however Kennedy was equal to it.

The home side were industrial and hard-working throughout but could not break down an impressive Witton Albion side who now seemed destined to be playing their football in the league above next season with Gateshead confident of joining them through the playoffs.

Full Time: 0-2

Gateshead: Musselwhite, Baxter, Cave, Jones (Bowey 86mins), Curtis, Gate (Phillips 58mins), Turnbull, Salvin, Brayson(Harwood 58mins), Armstrong, Southern.

Gateshead 0 Witton 2: initial verdict
By Andrew Simpson

WITTON have one hand on the title after a sensational victory at Gateshead.

England C international Liam Brownhill and Dave MacPherson scored a goal in each half to send Ian Bogie’s men spinning out of the title race.

Albion are now in a straight fight with Fleetwood Town for top spot and automatic promotion to Blue Square North.

Manager Jim Vince took the bold step to leave out midfielder Alex Brown, replacing him with Steve Brodie, in his only change from the team that strolled to victory over Leek at the weekend.

It was a decision that paid off handsomely.

They now lead Fleetwood by 11 points but have played three more matches.

Absolutely fantastic! However, I don’t like the comment from the Heed about “Champions Elect” - still plenty of work to do.

The Otley reds will be out in force for our “home” game on Saturday!

Absolutely awesome result! Well done lads! That result only strengthens our claim for promtion to the BSN and more importantly hopefully boxing day and new years day fixtures against them from the other side of the canal! Im over the moon so much its great! Come on Witton! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Absolutley Brilliant! Was not expecting anything from this game but to get 3 points there is absolutely awesome as Gateshead are without doubt the second best team in our league! As quite a few others have pointed out lets try and keep our feet on the ground and keep focusing match by match. Saturday is going to be just as hard because its usually long grass and a garbage pitch at Guiesley no disrespect to them, but its another potential Prescot type game. However we have a reasonable record there and lets hope come Saturday night we got another 3 points in the kitty.
I’m still being cautious but last night was a giant step lets keep it up please!! Well done to Jim for having the courage to bring back Brodie. I think he’s been a big contributor to our succes this season and the work he does tends to go un noticed. But the whole squad has been fantastic and it is a squad game now as even Premier League teams rest people and bring people in!
We have a great bunch of players and your’e all contributing a major part whether you play or not we can’t do it without all of you keep going lads!

I still haven’t come back down off the ceiling after last night’s performance!! Jim’s tactics (which he shared with us ont he bus ride home!!) were absolutely spot on. You could tell when the players were getting on the coach just how much they felt they could win this game. Travelling up last year you could feel the tension, but not last night! Everyone seemed relaxed - but also very focused.

Every player is at least an 8/10 for last night. Special mention though to Pritch, Liam, Macca, Lloydy, and Lazy Rod - who were all 9.5/10 IMO.

Milly has got some great moves too!!

Na Na Nar Nar Na Na!!!

Fantastic on and off the pitch last night.

BACK ON LINE - BUT NOT DOWN TO EARTH!!!

We went to Gateshead as a club - won as a club and hopefully will go onto the title as a club!

Look over the canal, at Gretna, at Liverpool, Chelsea et al and tell me honestly which is the best club.

ITS OURS LETS SUPPORT IT AND SHOW PASSION FOR EVERY GAME LIKE WE SHOWED LAST NIGHT.

This club nearly went the way of the above mentioned, this season is a celebration of all things good in the game of football. IF we do win the title it will be richly deserved and a personal triumph not just for the players and management, but for every single person who cares and has put time, effort and money into our continued existence, especially through the lean times.

‘PROUD TO BE A WITTONER’

Andy Chad, what can I say? Could not agree more. If I had to choose between Witton and Spurs it would be Witton everytime and I am sure your Dad feels the same way. This will be a triumph of a proper football club, a club run and supported by people who REALLY care. Once again my praise to those lads who have stuck it out on the terraces through thick and thin over the past few years holds no bounds. Players come and go, but you lads are there forever. You deserve the great management and team you have got.
