Not sure how you set up a poll on here (be pleased if someone could set it up), but I hope GE has had time to reflect and we should show the strength of feeling by posting here to get the “silver-haired one” back in the fold!
Totally agree with you eddiec, I sent GE an email last weekend but haven’t had a response upto now. I wouldn’t imagine that it’s anything personal on his part, as we all know he’s not that kind of guy.
I have to agree that Graham will be sorely missed at the club there will be many who will find out just how much people like him do at the club only when he has gone
I understand that the door is very much open for GE to come back, I think that many of us have tried to persuade him to do so. What is possibly required now is time, more than anything else. My thoughts on this are that the criticism he received from a former director should have been treated with the contempt it deserved! It is always easy to criticise and many people underestimate the work that goes in from ‘voluntary’ sources.
The best outcome from this situation would be Grahams return, however that may or may not happen and therefore our current focus has to be on those that are in position and working hard, Mark, Nige, Pete Riley and others. Regardless of the turmoil of the last month we must build a stronger Witton as a result and learn from the lessons.
My thoughts are the same as every true Witton supporter we want Graham back, but please don’t badger him, the best thing is for him to have a break, forget about Witton for a while and hopefully as the new season arrives he may come back a little refreshed and want to return.
As for the comments about him costing Witton thousands I will just say this, IF and I mean IF GE made an error and did cost us something lets just deduct that from what he raised for Witton Albion and then consider what the people who are having a dig have raised and then decide who we think we should back.
Onward and upward for WAFC hopefully with GE back on board
Agreeing fully with all the words of support above.
When you are in a position within the club atboard or managerial level it is totally reasonable to leave a formal task to another person and it to be done when it has been done before.
This happens in every business across the country, people who stab you in the back like this or external people stiring it does not reflect badly on people doing their best for the club. They are the enemy NOT those within the club and we will only get through this together and I hope Graham still feels he wants to be involved in working with the most supporter centred committee/board we have ever had.
If however Graham feels enough is enough - we all have our limits, we should respect his decision and not badger him as noted above and appreciate the hours he has put in which are more than most will do in their time supporting the club.
Glad he’s gone save me money not buying a raffle ticket off him and he always manages to corner me too so I can’t get out of it!!
Seriously we need him back plus Mike Worthington. Everyone needs to bury the hatchet and think about the future of the club. The loss of Mike and Graham are really severe blows to this club and I’d love to find a way of getting them both back working for the good of the club. I don’t care if they made mistakes or whose fault it was I know these guys would always do their best and give 110% and by the sound of it it was a certain other person who cocked things up anyway and I think he’s the real enemy at the moment!! These are people with loads of acumen, committment, knowledge, contacts, etc etc. Also these great people need to be supplemented by other people on the board who can bring different skills to to the table e.g solicitor, Accountants, Marketing, Selling skills, in fact anyone really who likes football and has a successful local business in the area. I don’t think there was anybody in the Unibond league more respected than Mike or Graham so lets have you both back please even if this means you doing a little less and others taking some of the weight off you.
If Mike would not like to be chairman his expertise and experince should be utilised in a consultancy role and I would also see him as Project director for any ground move. So its essential we get these two back in harness. Their loss is greater than any football manager and players with our fantastic “Pritch” the one exception. He’s stayed and is so positive so c’mon Graham and Mike I know you both and I know you’d never run away from a challenge please please please both come back I’ll even buy you a drink at the risk of moths flying out of my wallet and I’m sure I’m speaking for 100% of witton supporters here!! WE bang on a about Football playing legends but Mike and Graham are true Witton legends as far as I’m concerned!!
MW is an entirely different case, and despite the hardwork that he and his family have put in, there are a number of things that have happened since his departure that put things into a different light. Suggest you speak to others within the club.
Stand by what I say Oracle. No one is perfect and I understand some of what your hinting at with Mike but he worked hard for the club and for me anyway certainly had the integrity and acumen to run the club. Before anyone starts on me I’m not having a go at Mark Harris who I respect immensly and who is a great bloke also. The club needs many great blokes though which is why its tragic that Graham has seen fit to resign but its typical of the unselfish nature of the lad because he feels responsible even though he wasn’t. I’d love to see Graham back where he belongs so at least we all agree on that one even if it meant someone helping Graham with is workload. That way if it was someone younger we’d have a future generation Graham to carry on the good work when GE finally does call it a day around 2050!!
It is a sad fact that you only realise how important someone like Graham is when he is no longer there. A volunteer should never have been put in a position that an action or inaction by him could have such disastrous effects on the club, there are enough people making a living out of Witton to ensure volunteers only do minor tasks. In Graham we haa man doing an almost full time job for Witton for no pay whatsoever, to censure him in anyway is a travesty. Go back Graham, you and just a few others ARE Witton Albion Football Club, the rest are just “hangers-on”, there when it suits, gone when it doesn’t. I am a “hanger-on” myself but I appreciate that without you and the others I would have nothing to hang on to!!!
WHS.
WHS you are correct in that it’s bang out of order to be criticising not just a volunteer, but also a massive Witton fan. GE trusted somebody to carry out a task in his absense - as had been done the year before - only for this person to let him down. GE’s only crime here is to trust a colleague, someone who also claimed to have the best interests of WAFC at heart. The issue is the above post from Colin Peakcock though. For all the work GE puts in, for even 1 ‘Witton fan’ to post something like the above, or for someone to say something to him in person at a game, well if i was Graham i dont think that i would stand for it - and why should he? GE has not cost us money - it was money we never had anyway. He hasn’t taken cash out of the Club, or attempted to claim monies back as ‘loans’. Graham inspires people like myself to get more involved with the football club, and his loss is a massive one - but time is a great healer, and perhaps in a few months he will change his mind.
But WHS, do not think that the small role you play is any less vital. We all do what we can, and that’s why Witton will get over this latest set back as it has the many others before it.
That statement isn’t entirely true, no-one can be above criticism, not even someone as devoted as Graham. But the simple fact is that he is in no way deserving of criticism in this matter.
