WITTON keeper Jon Kennedy is set to sign for Droylsden this week.
Albion boss Nigel Deeley told the Guardian the club had no way of matching the Bloods’ offer to their shot stopper.
“We simply could not compete,” he said.
"I can bring in four players for what he will earn there.
“We just can’t get anywhere near that sort of money.”
Deeley praised the former Sunderland custodian for the way he handled the discussions.

“Jon was very open and honest throughout with us,” he added.
“Fair play to him, he deserves the opportunity to play at a higher level.”
And Deeley has wasted no time finding a replacement, raiding a Blue Square North club for Kennedy’s successor.
His arrival should be confirmed by the end of the week.
“We’ve agreed everything, he just needs to sign the paperwork,” said the Witton boss.
“Until then I won’t be saying who it is but I’m pleased with the move.”
Kennedy, 27, has spent two spells at Witton, making more than a century of appearances.
He initially signed on loan in March 2005 before agreeing a permanent deal.
A four-figure transfer to Halifax Town followed and he helped the Shaymen to the Conference National play off final.
He then signed for Lancaster City under former Witton boss Gary Finley before returning to Wincham Park in October 2006 as a replacement for Jon Worsnop.
Blue Square North newboys Droylsden, relegated from non league football’s top tier last season, have yet to make the move official.
