So the idea that Gareth Bale and Modric would be at Old Trafford come August has gone up in smoke. Even with no manager Bale has signed a new contract and if Modric was going anywhere it seems likely it will be to Real Madrid. The plain fact is United are not the big spenders anymore and top players are no longer falling over themselves to sign for them. If Fergie retires the end is nigh!! (With Vics already up the “Swannee” it would be heaven indeed for me personally if United failed to finish in the top four this coming season. Chelsea, Arsenal, City, Spurs, Newcastle, Liverpool, Everton are all going to be threats and maybe another team will come out of the “pack” too. What have United to offer? Old men Scholes Giggs and Ferdinand!) That should start a scuffle until Witton play their first friendly >
WHS.
Im not sure United were ever seriously linked with Bale, and Modric looks destined to go to Madrid.
Bale’s doing the right thing for the club by ensuring they get a decent price for him next summer
Actually I think Bale is massively overrated, worth £20 million maybe but not the kind of figures that have been banded about. As for Modric, he will be a loss but with Huddlestone back and one or two new signings not as big a loss as some might think. United? Take out Rooney and they have no players worth even £20 million!
WHS.
Due to the incredible value of United’s ‘global brand’ it’s unlikely they will ever fall totally from grace, certainly not in the near future. Unfortunately they are more than a football club.
Sir Alex will be around for quite a while longer. He will call time when he feels the excellent Everton manager is ready to fill his boots.
United accept that the money of the middle east oil fields re-define British football, what happens first, the oil or money dries up?
United will never dry up,much to the envy of everybody not associated with the club.
WHS,i guess your first post was from the Spanish holiday island, after a jug of sangria.
No, stone cold sober. United are massively overrated in my opinion which is why in his dreams Fergie would have liked Modric and Bale. Ten years ago he had two better players, Scholes and Giggs, the problem is he still has them! I will stand by what I have said, United will struggle unless he finds some money from somewhere. As for your global position, I agree that will maintain you, but for how long if you aren’t winning anything, remind me, what did you win last season? And when did you go out of the Champions League? As I said, like Best before him, Rooney has realised that United are a fading force and he will soon want out again.

WOW! That is some statement, overrated 19 top division titles, 11 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, 19 Charity Shields, 3 Champions Leagues, 1 UEFA Cup Winners Cup, 1 European Super Cup, 1 Intercontinental Cup, 1 FIFA Club World Cup, not bad going for a side that is overrated :silly: Iam an Everton fan and I wish that we had won half of what Alex Ferguson and Manchester United have achieved.
Won nothing last year but lost the league on goal difference and were missing vidic for a long part of last season. How did spurs do in the Europa league? Even with Bale and Modric failed to get in the champions league again. This united side is by no means great but will still finish top 2 in the league yet again. I don’t think we’re overrated the prem isn’t as good as it was say 5 years ago.
Jonnyamery, I was talking of NOW not history! And as for losing Vidic, since when did United rely on one player? You are making my point for me, you are lacking in class throughout the team and others will have noticed. Spurs were without Huddlestone and Dawson virtually all season, then lost King and Lennon, we suffered because of it. I still say United are a spent force, go on, tell me the players apart from Rooney who would get a game at City or Barcelona? Modric and Bale would!! Great this isn’t it? I love a good discussion!
WHS.
Considering City’s team cost the best part of a billion, this “crap” United did well to only lose the title on goal difference.
Kagawa looks a decent signing, and it looks like Baines is on his way. Evra’s losing his way a little, the competition will be good but wouldn’t be surprised to see them both playing.
Europe as ever will be achievable if somebody knocks Barca out but it’s still a long shot, and the focuswill be on getting the title back. And if you want to bet against that, go right ahead
Oh I will, I will!! You have NO chance, even Arsenal are looking a better bet with Van Persie staying. Not sure about Chelsea though, I think they will miss Drogba, wish he would sign for Spurs! But the fact is City should win the league by a mile. I remember saying to a friend of mine, (Yes I do have some and this one supported United!) around 1991 that I was worried that if United ever did win the league again they would win it again and again. I think that now applies to City. Unless the Arabs leave City will dominate the league for years to come. (Unless Glazier sells out to a richer bunch of Arabs!) I personally find it sad that basically we have a five team league, maybe not even that many. We are nearly as bad as Spain and Scotland and what a bore their leagues are, Barcelona or Real Madrid, Celtic and now Rangers have gone NOBODY!

Huddlestone, Dawson and Lennon the Premier League must be in fear now they are fit again ha ha
Modric and Bale won’t be Tottenham players for much longer so fear the worst WHS, I think you should be more concerned with the fact you are about to have AVB at your helm, a manager which successfully managed to ruin a potential title winning side and got the sack for being frankly sh*t!
I feel ‘you fear what you don’t know’ never really been a success Tottenham have they? When was your last League Title? Trophy?
Any side that loses there captain will always miss them. I agree Dawson was a big loss last season, but you can’t rely on king not stayed fit for a decade so you have to plan for it. Lennon has been quiet for a couple of seasons and isn’t huddlestone 4th choice for centre mid. We also missed Valencia first couple of months. He would get a game at barca very similar to bale. We’ll have to wait and see if the new financial rules are enforced properly if they are city will get knocked off the top again.
If United have to pay their debts they will be doing a Vics and playing at Stafford!! How much debt has Glazier lumbered you with? Huddlestone would have been a first choice playing behind Modric, he had just become a member of the England squad when he was injured. Dawson was actually injured playing for England. Bale has signed for Spurs until 2016 and Modric has not gone yet. As for the new manager, had a “Mare” at Chelsea but only because he was trying to get rid of the “dead wood” and player power saw him off. He was brilliant at Porto spoken of as another Mourinho, which is why Chelsea brought him in in the first place. Half a season is not long enough to judge a manager, I hope we give Pritch a bit longer than that. This is good isn’t it? Passing the time before our first friendly. anyway
WHS.
Kagawa? Baines? who the hell are they? Certainly not Ronaldo and Puyol and you sold one of them!

Let’s see if I can get this wrong, Italy 1 Spain 2.

YEP!
At least I got who won right. You know, sometimes the Spanish play football that is nearly as good as Witton!
WHS.
As a huge fan of Spanish football i am red faced to have called a Italy-German final, with our Germanic friends to lift the trophy.
The Spanish are fantastic, everybody in the middle of the pitch not big enough to pick a fight with my size 10 wife. They have made history with their hat-trick of titles.
I thought this summer may have seen them a little bit soft, very easy on the eye but without the killer touch.Just think of the squad that never featured last night,i take my hat off to the Kings of football.
We were giving it large a couple of months ago with King Harry set to rule the waves and defeat Europe, instead we were given Uncle Roy,calmness personified and a million miles away from second hand car salesman Harry,pre-occupied with tax evasion and his nice little earner in Enfield.
King Harry was our so called best option, heavily weighed down with baggage from his Arthur Daley former life,Tottenham are no more than a fancy-dan big time charlie.
Uncle Roy could cope with the national team and the pantomine that is Tottenham.
Tika-taka rules .
