Ground hoppers view

I found this on a ground hoppers forum. A couple of guys took advantage of there being 2 games on in town when we player Skem.

Northern Premier League Premier Division
Northwich Victoria 0 Ossett Town 1
Victoria Stadium
Gate £12 Prog £2 Att 277

Poor game overall with Northwich having much more of the ball in the first half but Ossett creating the clearer chances. Second half more even with fewer chances. Looked like a 0-0 for most of the game until seven minutes from time when the Northwich keeper parried a free kick into the path of an onrushing forward who duly tucked the ball away.

The game kicked off three minutes late and the referee found five minutes injury time from four second half substitutions and a short injury stoppage. This led to a mad rush to Witton Albion’s ground. Fortunately I had ascertained before the Northwich match that the best way between the grounds was via a wooden footbridge over the river that separates the grounds and a 200 yard walk down a muddy footpath. Useful for daylight and dry weather but not recommended for night time or wet/wintery weather.

Northern Premier League Division One North
Witton Albion 0 Skelmersdale United 1
Wincham Park
Gate £8.50 Prog £2 Att 343

Got within 50 yards of the turnstyles when the referee started the game. Much better game despite the same scoreline. This was due to quality of defending and goalkeeping. Witton played some nice football but Skelmersdale were the better team throughout. They deservedly took the lead just before the break when the left sided forward cut inside his marker and drove the ball past the helpless keeper. Serious injury to a Skelmersdale forward in the dying minutes, lets hope he is OK.

A larger crowd at Witton (which pleased them with a sarcastic tannoy announcement made to much merriment amonst the locals) and overall I preferred my experience at Witton where their ground had a lived in feel to it whereas Northwich’s ground was more shiny and new looking and far too big for a crowd of 277.

Also at these two matches, and would agree with Herb Alpert’s assessment, even though he must be wealthier than me, as I only paid £10 to stand up at Northwich.
The other feature that made Witton a better experience was the excellent museum in the corner attached to the club shop. Can’t remember seeing anything quite like it inside a non-league ground anywhere else. Worth visiting!

Thank you Ground Hopper.:cheer:

 and how nice the comment on the museum!!
