I know the wife should come first WHS.But every games massive now,im not gonna be seeing much of Amy between now and the end of the season,i try get her to come footy but she wont so nevermind! Although ive not been able play footy today cos of her!
In non league paper they gave the attendance as 364,only looked about 200 to me!
MikeY. Please remember, Witton will ALWAYS be there, they will not go away, your Mrs might!!! Witton is important but you really must get your priorities right, Witton don’t wash your dirty underpants!!!
WHS
haha maybe youre right! ;D
Fantastic again!! The 33/1 I got for winning the league a few months back is looking like good value too!
PS. When do we play our re-aranged game against Burscough?
Used to get to watch the Albs home and away, with my dad (Doug Adair) he went to his first Witton match in 1923, and my uncle (Ray Garner).
Sadly my dad died 3 years ago and Ray very recently, Ive not been since my Dad fell ill bout 5 years back, too painful.
Its a 50 mile round trip to every home game but I’ll be there on Tuesday and I’ll try and drag some mates with me, whats happening at the club is fantastic.
Still got my FA Trophy final shirt, be great to chuck it back on.
Can’t wait to see the place again, prob be a very emotional night for me so I’d appreciate a win if you don’t mind.
Bring on the Conference !!!
Fox, is there a particular Witton chant you would like to hear being as you are travelling so far?? I’m sure we can dust off the old song-book.
BTW, Burcough is scheduled for Tues 20th March.
UniBond Premier Division Saturday February 17th 2007
GUISELEY 1 WITTON ALBION 3 att 364
TEAM: Kennedy; Spearritt, Pritchard, Barras, Brownhill; Peers (Clegg 72), Lloyd, Brown, Connors ; Warlow, Jones G. (Moseley 85) sub n/u Hockenhull
With their large new flag very suitably inscribed with ?The Brian Pritchard Enclosure? and strategically in place, the 100 or so strong Wittoners really celebrated this victory against one of their potential promotion rivals. The Nethermoor pitch, although pleasingly void of any surface water, was very patchy in parts and before the kick-off appeared to cause Jim Vince concern.
Jon Kennedy was the first keeper called upon and he produced a full length diving save, straight off the top shelf, to push a fiercely driven shot from Rob Pell around his left hand post in the 7th minute. As Witton started to take the game to the hosts Steve Connors was upended in the box by Guiseley skipper Richard Dunning and there were no complaints when Leeds referee Mark Horn pointed to the spot in the 13th minute. GRIFF JONES duly stepped up and calmly struck the ball past Steve Dickinson.
Kennedy was again Albion?s saviour when on 19 minutes he again dived to his left this time pushing Gavin Knight?s glancing header over the bar. Just before the half hour mark and following a wicked cross from Mark Peers a salvo of shots rained in, Jones?s initial one blocked by Dickinson, then Alex Brown saw his effort blocked before Neil Lloyd, backing up also saw Dickinson come to Guiseley?s rescue with another block.
Despite the pressure Guiseley managed to equalise in the 36th minute, from a left side corner kick, after the ball had taken the slightest deflection following a hopeful cross from the home team. Dunning?s flag-kick being met firmly by the head of Simon Sturdy at the near post. Witton responded well and after a well worked move between Lloyd and Brown Connors saw his headed attempt go wide of the target. A minute later though the 42nd minute saw Kennedy?s long clearance bamboozle defenders Scott McNiven and Sam Denton and GRIFF JONES took full advantage of the ?after you Claude? to pounce on the loose ball and as Dickinson raced off his line he coolly lobbed the ball over the keeper to notch up his 14th goal of the season from just his last 13 starts!
Three minutes after the interval a Tom Spearritt and Brown link-up produced a superb cross that saw Adam Warlow?s header go narrowly over. Guiseley were reduced to attempting the long ball approach and in the main thus produced fodder for both Tony Barras and Brian Pritchard, Spearritt was evident several times in impressive moves down the right but it was a moment of inspiration on the opposite flank that nearly brought Jones his hat-trick in the 80th minute. The ?lean mean machine? initially brought a shriek of anguish from Liam Brownhill, as he intercepted a cross meant for the middle but in a flash Jones whipped in a low shot that brought a good reactionary save at the base of the post out of Dickinson.
Somewhat against the run of play the 84th minute again saw a Dunning flag-kick met by Sturdy but this time the ball struck the upright before the excellent Mr Horn spotted an infringement. With a minute left on the clock ADAM WARLOW superbly judged an intended back pass when he intercepted and produced a nice evasion of the onrushing Dickinson to plant the ball into the net and take his season?s tally on to 19. Cue another new song ? and dance ? from the masses on the adjacent terrace.
In closing I?ve mention the referee a couple of times and really it was a breath of fresh air to see him play the advantage rule perfectly throughout. Several times we see referees inconsistent or ignoring the ?3 second? approach but Mark Horn?s performance was exemplary. It?s only his first season at this level and his firmness and common sense can only be admired. Bit of a shame then that he?s unlikely to be called upon to travel to Wincham Park eh?
ME - I believe we had these conversations back in 2000 when the last month of the season was so nerve racking - I do believe we could actually achieve something of note for the first time in my time as a supporter and for many others as well.
Tuesday is massive indeed but we do keep rising to the occasion - I’m sure the fans will on Tuesday as well.
Saturday was terrific again, excellent support and very solid team performance and the lads we bring of the bench show how strong this squad is. No doubt it can achieve the title.
WE’RE IN THE PRITCHARD ENCLOSURE! (no robbo I’ve not had a beer!)
Robbo,
Thanks for the offer,
I well remember a chap of ample proportion leading the chant of ‘ZIGGA ZAGGA ZIGGA ZAGGA ALBION’
He probably still does !
I’ll be happy to hear chants of ‘WE WANT SIX’ with about 10 mins to go.
Really looking forward to it.
When you look round the team you could put up an argument for each of the players to be "man of the match" - that says it all. Front to back everyone on their game.
On the other teams’ websites they are all looking very nervously at us - no one relishes coming to Wincham Park and that has got to be worth some advantage to us during the rest of the season.
Come on the Albs - lets just keep it going!!!
Yeah I missed the match because I too had to go to the Ballet. I took my mum because it was her 84th birthday. Sometimes the Albion have to come second I’m afraid and this was one of those times. My mum would have been gutted had she known I’d missed the match because of her which is why I had to tell her a little whit lie about having to work till 1230 Saturday meaning I would not be able to go to the match anyway. What I’m saying is I sympathise with WHS a little bit and obviously Mike Y is a dedicated supporter. Anyway what ever I’m trying to ensure I see every match till we get presented with the league trophy from now on but occasionally like WHS my time is not always my own. I’m pig sick really that I missed Saturday and not just because of the match. I had a nice lunch venue lined up in Skipton (one of my favourite places), on the way up after spending the morning on the Keithely and Worth railway. I’ll be there tonight though in full vocal form. Lets have another win lads . Get in there and lets push to the 70 goal mark tonight!!
