I think that ‘tasteful memorabilia’ would look good in the club, along the lines of Ilkeston’s club.
Framed shirts, decent pictures etc.
How would that sit with non-Albion fans attending or hiring the club for social functions?
We discussed this last week at the Poker night and the general consensus was that it would be really good to have some Witton/football memorabilia in the club. Having a bigger club than most teams probably makes it slightly harder to decorate, so it maybe an idea to put the memorabilia in one corner or one part of the club.
It does need something I’ve never been a fan of the redecoration and was puzzled why we covered all the brickwork and gave it the ‘works canteen’ look, memorabilia would get my vote (although maybe costly) but maybe a large club emblem at the back of the stage?
New chairs and tables would be a start…
not before giving the place a good clean…
they should never changed the club from the original set up it looks like a works canteen now
I think some memorabilia would be nice, so long as it is not over the top. Maybe on just one wall, say the wall between the social club and the vice presidents lounge. We can’t go too much over the top, as we have to remember that we market the social club for non-footballing events. (e.g. weddings and parties etc)
I do agree that the room at the moment seems to be very bland, and it does need some character adding to it. I personally think the raised areas that we used to have, with U shaped bench seating areas gave the club much more character.
If you want to attract more people for none-football based events then I think the toilets near then main entrance really need looking at. At the moment the walls are mouldy, which is not going to encourage people to re-book the place for social events.
I don’t think a flag would work other than for football fans. I think the money would be better spent on a more accommodating/co-ordinating colour scheme.
Agree Emma, decorating is priority and could be done tastefully ( leave that to the ladies ) in Witton colours as u say. Have a big flag by all means but one that can put up for the right occasions. Plenty of memorabilia in the lounge is there not - just needs sorting and adding to.
My favorite thing in the Club is the photo of the Lutkevitch’s goal in the Trophy final in '92. IMO more stuff like that would be brilliant.
It could made up as a wallpaper and incorporated in Emma,s decor Robbo.
You should bring it up during your guest appearance on the phone in tomorrow… :-
Thank you for all your comments. Ive now received some items for the social club memorial wall, with more promised. I think the idea of a large Witton Badge is a no no , but it was just a thought.
Just to keep you updated, we are busy getting quotes in for the ladies toilets refurbishment. If you have any friends in the plumbing trade, please feel free to ask them to contact myself to organise a quote. (0774 284 1254 or Thepartyvenue@aol.com)
Michelle & I are planning on a few alterations within in the club, but will have to save hard for new chairs & tables, I might try and make some??? I think not. (ha ha)
We are trying to "Grooy Up" The social.
Thank you for taking your time to read this message.
