Unibond Full Time

Fleetwood 3 Ashton 0.

Never mind! Lets have em at our place! Apprently 2 goals disallowed! Come on Witton!

Referee was a disgrace, how we came away from there with anything is beyond belief, the performance from the lads was ok, a draw was fair result but why that header late on from Adam was disallowed beggers belief, never mind, roll on Tuesday

Let’s all get there on Tuesday to support the lads, Come on Witton!

i can’t beleive how unlucky we were in getting the two goals disallowed, we played pretty well today i thought, and great atmosphere among the witton crowd almost seemed as though we had more supporters there than they did…
Well done lads

wat a discrase that ref was. ok first goal that was disallowed maybe he had a case. but warlows goal was a clear goal there was nothing wrong at all. bring them on, on tuesday

Just been looking on Hucknall’s forum, the consensus there seems to be that we weren’t much of a side, and that they would have won if they’d had 11 men. Hmmmmmm.

I’d agree that we weren’t on top form today, but we were still unlucky not to have won, and the home supporters that I spoke to were gracious enough to say so as well. Let’s hope we can show them what we can really do on Tuesday.

Didn’t think much of their ground, and the attendance of 351 was pretty poor considering we must have take well over 100.

I’ve been trying to give referees credit for improvement this season, but today I’m going to have to make an exception. He got a lot of important decisions wrong (not all in Hucknall’s favour either), but disallowing Adam’s goal at the end was particularly diabolical.

Thought the team as a whole played pretty well, although it wasn’t a vintage performance. However, Cavell Coo was outstanding, and would get my MoM vote.

Roll on Tuesday, come on the Albion!

F.A. Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round - Saturday November 24th 2007

HUCKNALL TOWN 1 WITTON ALBION 1 att. 351

TEAM: Kennedy; Coo, Pritchard, Spearritt, Brownhill; Peers, Lloyd, MacPherson, Brodie (Dillon 78); Warlow (Wilson 90), Thornley. Subs n/u Kearney, Rutter & Ellison.
Star Man CAVELL COO

Albion were denied victory at the first attempt by an appalling decision by Hull referee Matt McGrath with a minute of normal time remaining. Adam Warlow had risen perfectly to head a high ball from Mark Peers but with Albion and their 120 strong following celebrating and Hucknall despondently retrieving the ball for the re-start the man in black decided that Warlow had used a defender’s shoulder but it was clear to everyone else, including the home contingent that contact had only been made as the ball was on its way into the goal.

Witton had come out of the traps flying and in the 6th minute after Cavell Coo was involved in the build up several times Steve Brodie’s shot was blocked by the outstretched leg of Russell Cooke. With the ball still not cleared Brodie then scorned a good opportunity when he sent his shot wide of the left post. On 10 minutes Town keeper Arran Reid made a “Scott Carson” mess of a shot from Mark Peers spilling the ball for a corner, the keeper then failed to react to the flag-kick but his lack of action had the affect of catching both his own defenders and the Albion predators off guard, the consequence seeing the ball bouncing all around the goal area with some desperate defending as Albion strived to get in front.

Jon Kennedy was finally called on to make a save in the 22nd minute following a shot from the right. Claims for a penalty were waved aside following Bobby Wilson’s challenge on Warlow and an off the ball incident saw Rod Thornley plainly taken out but referee and assistants must have been watching the crowd at the time! Liam Brownhill produced a great run just after the half-hour but his shot was deflected for a corner and in a counter attack a shot from the right bounced off the top of Kennedy’s cross-bar. Dave MacPherson saw his 20 yard effort go wide and again with Witton players caught upfield the break down the right saw the ball delivered across field to the unmarked Ben Kistell who skied the ball over the inviting target.

Within the space of a minute Mr McGrath penalised Thornley for a charge on Alistair Asher but when ex Leek Town pivot Gary Sucharewycz performed an identical challenge to the Albion player in the penalty area play was waved on. MacPherson then saw two efforts blocked as Witton strove to take the lead before the interval but totally against the run of play it was the home side that took the lead in stoppage time. Tom Spearritt had been harshly booked for a challenge just outside the area. The resultant free-kick flew off the wall for a corner and from the flag-kick it was the home team skipper and former Northwich player Danny Mayman who struck a good low shot into the bottom right corner of the net.

Town came out rejuvenated after the break and Kennedy was called on twice in quick succession to make saves. Rob Lloyd made a good run down the middle before releasing the ball to Warlow in the clear, the leading scorer looked to have done everything right with his shot but the ball struck the far post and rebounded back but he’d turned away expecting the acclaim for a goal and thus missed the opportunity to seize on the loose ball. The next attack in the 53rd minute saw Warlow clip the ball past the keeper who unceremoniously brought the striker down. A penalty kick was rightly awarded but the decision to send Arran Reid off the field did seem harsh as it didn’t appear that the Albion player would get to the ball before a defender. With the enforced change of keeper and lengthy protests from the home side it was to be almost four minutes later before MARK PEERS, as cool as cucumber struck the ball past Greg Smith.

On 62 minutes Thornley was only denied by Wilson’s full length lunge at the ball on the goal-line following yet more good approach work from Coo. Kennedy then had to pull a save straight out of the top drawer to push over Ben Saunders point-blank header. On 73 minutes Warlow had the ball in the net after Brian Pritchard’s header was spilled by Smith, again no real complaints from the home team but the goal was chalked off, presumably for an earlier infringement. John Dillon was introduced in the 78th minute and with his first touch could have scored but sent his shot wide. Following the last minute major “disallowed goal” incident Albion still created a couple of chances with Thornley sending his shot narrowly wide whilst Lloyd’s effort was saved by Smith. Also in stoppage time newly signed, from Barrow, Kyle Wilson was given his Albion debut.

An excellent review of the encounter by Chad Senior. It was a proper ‘cup tie’ yesterday and the travelling Wittoners were in fine voice. I think the timing of their goal was the main reason we only came away with a draw! We had been much the better side of the first half and their goal in stoppage time was certainly against the run of play. If we had have been the side to score it may have been a different outcome, as it was they we then encouraged to come out with greater passion and in truth we failed to recreate the same flowing football after the break.

We were not at our best but still approached the game very well, I always thought we could get back in it during the second half and the fact we earned a reply shows our effort. Don’t forget they were the ones at home and despite anything else they may offer in opinion they got a draw at home against a club from the league below them! A better result for us! They now have to come to Wincham Park and with 8 from 8 in the league our home form has been solid (ironically the only blemishes on the record in the cup)!

There is no point saying much regards Warlow’s disallowed goal - FACT; clean and clear goal (I’ve seen the video) and very poor decision by the Ref, how many times in important games do the officials get the big results wrong!!!

Nothing yesterday suggested that we cannot beat them on Tuesday night (and the extra revenue will come in handy although I don’t expect them to bring anything like the support we took there)!

You tube has wrecked the quality so maybe I could send them to Si or Mike who could put them onto the main site?

Theres a topic on the Conf North forum about away supporters. Some say we took 50 (although I reckon there was well over 100 of us) yesterday, others say weve got the best following of any club in the country!!

Can’t really add much to what’s already been said. Except…

Loutish behaviour by a minority of our fans did not go unnoticed. See the Hucknall forum. I reckon we have a pretty good reputation so far. Let’s not blow it with stupid antics.

The absurd chant of "sh1t ground no fans" raised it’s ugly head again. Could someone please enlighten me as to what this achieves other than really p1ssing off the home team/supporters? Some of who no doubt volunteer and work very hard to maintain the ground. There is no need for it - cut it out!

No doubt if we get promoted next season, we may be the on the receiving end of that chant. I wonder how we would feel?

Sorry to bang on. The support was tremendous on Saturday. Let’s keep it channelled in the right areas.

Totally agree Eddie, can’t understand that particular chant at all. The main point of singing is to support your own team, not to antagonise the opposition. Let’s have loads of noise on Tuesday night, all of it aimed at helping our lads do the business on the pitch.

Great effort from the lads and a fantastic day out had by everybody.
What a gesture from Jim to come out of his way into Wetherspoons to put money in the drinks kitty for the fans, fantastic!

We must surely be confident for tomorrow night, a huge game with the prize of a home draw in the next round. The fans have a responsibility to be even louder tomorrow night, than we were on Saturday! RED ARMY!

We said we’d bring 100 and you said no no no!

A slighly belated comment on the game but here goes…

Agree with Eddie’s comments above - was the ground that bad? I’m also unsure what our players must think when they hear we are apparently more interested in the home teams ground than encouraging us to win! Tuesday night lets have it channeled indeed towards a home tie and £3k please!

As for the match - could have lost it - they did give us a few scares however should have won it. 2/3 penalty decisions turned down for me in the 1st half. a few solid blocks on the line - especially that 1 in the 2nd half. What was wrong with Pritch’s or especially Adams goal? Absolute, ahem. I’m still confused now - even more so when you see the video.

As for the sending off - did anyone else not feel it was a tad harsh? A pen yes, but having overhit the ball and it going wide would they have got there? If it was the other way round I’d be gutted to be missing JK for such an incident.

In short I thought the ref got all the big decisions wrong and either the linesmen didn’t want to or weren’t asked to get involved.

Anyway enough ranting - let our football do the talking on tuesday.
