Ian Kearney from Ashton Website!!!

Manager Danny Johnson has revealed that although his new signing Ian Kearney put pen to paper on Thursday evening there has been an eleventh hour approach from the players ex-manager at Witton Albion Jim Vince who may well be returning to management in the not too distant future.

Despite this approach the manager is confident that Ian will be an Ashton United player next season and explains ‘At 6.15pm on Thursday evening Ian put pen to paper and had agreed to join us for the new season. Then at 7.30pm, before the ink even had chance to dry on the paperwork Ian called to say that he had received a call from Jim offering him a much improved deal than what Ian had signed with us. From the conversation I had with Ian I understand that Jim now feels up to managing again following his operation which forced him to resign from Witton Albion a few weeks ago and will be appointed as manager at an unnamed club over the next few days and wants to take Ian with him’.

Danny continues ‘It’s a real difficult situation and I must say that I certainly don’t blame Ian for wanting to speak with Jim and to hear what he has to say. I certainly won’t stand in his way of doing that. However, Ian accepts that he has signed a contract with Ashton United and has insisted that he still wants to play for us next season and that any offer/opportunity that is put to him has to be 100% right for all concerned’.

Mr Vince strikes again!!

“From the conversation I had with Ian I understand that Jim now feels up to managing again following his operation which forced him to resign from Witton Albion a few weeks ago and will be appointed as manager at an unnamed club over the next few days”

Another example, if one were needed, of completely inappropriate behaviour.

I dearly hope it is another Unibond Premier club so we can extend a warm welcome on arrival!

Kearney to Remain at Ashton
Sunday, June 22, 2008

Manager Danny Johnson has this morning revealed that Ian Kearney will be an Ashton United player next season. Danny has received a phone call from Jim Vince telling him that he was unaware that Ian had put pen to paper and as far as he is concerned he won’t be taking the matter any further. Danny has also been in contact with the player who can’t wait to get started with his new club.

The manager explains ‘I have an excellent relationship with Jim Vince and we have spoken on a number of occasions this summer over various issues. Jim has assured me that he was unaware Ian had signed for us and there will be no further approaches for the players services’.

‘My excellent relationship with Jim remains and I have also assured him that my recent statement on our website was not aimed at harming his reputation but a true and up to date account of the Ian Kearney situation to keep the supporters of Ashton United updated. Jim is a nice fella and an excellent football manager; the sooner people like him return to the game the better. I wish Jim all the very best with his rehabilitation and his future in the game’.

Danny couldn’t hide his excitement at this turn of events and has promised supporters there will be at least another one big signing before the squad return for pre season training next Saturday. ‘I am hopeful of coming to a deal with another central defender on Thursday evening when the player returns from holiday. If all goes to plan we will have a central defensive partnership to be reckoned with and it will have made all the hard work I have put in over the summer worthwhile’ Danny explained.

i hope oxford are contemplating their next publishing of the english dictionary to contain the words jim vince when defining the word Scum! He wil prob goin blue square he wont have the balls to play us in our league. However whichever club he is at maybe we should plan one game to go to and show our support to jim? Hmmm

I have a hunch that Vince will pop up at Droylsden, took these from their forum

The Albion full back has had his contract torn up by the FA after the game’s governing body declared it invalid.

He is now expected to join home town team Altrincham, with whom he has already held talks.

The Robins’ interest appeared to cool when Witton said they would demand a transfer fee for their most prized asset, who was capped twice by England C last season.

“We appealed to Soho Square but it seems that because the offers of re-engagement which were to be undertaken by the ex-manager were not completed in accordance with FA requirements, these became invalid,” said acting Albion chairman Mark Harris in a statement released today, Wednesday.

He added that club secretary Graham Edgeley had agreed to take the blame for the mistake.

“The board backs Graham fully,” continued Harris.

“We must now draw a line under this and move on.”

The news is a blow to Witton, who had hoped to boost new manager Nigel Deeley’s playing budget with cash from the sale of Brownhill.

The 21-year-old was one of ex-boss Jim Vince’s first signings when he took over the first team reigns almost three years ago.

Vince successfully converted the right-footed defender to one of the finest attacking left backs in non-league football, a transformation that forced England scouts to become regulars at Wincham Park in the past 12 months.

Brownhill made more than 130 appearances for the club in league and cup - scoring eight goals - before agreeing a new deal to stay with Witton at the end of last season.

Vince’s acrimonious departure persuaded him to re-think his commitment with a queue of admirers - Altrincham and Droylsden among them - forming for his signature in recent weeks.

“Everyone at the club is working very hard under difficult circumstances in a period of transition,” added Harris, who has been in the Wincham Park hotseat for six weeks since the unexpected departure of predecessor Mike Worthington

Ive heard alot about this guy, a great player and would be a quality signing if we beat alty to him. Who have just signed another left back so maybe on the cards…

and

Having read Non League Today yesterday,it would appear that along with Jon Kennedy(goalkeeper),we have also signed Cavell Coo from Witton Albion.Coo is a left wing back, and was signed from Altrincham last season. After an impressive season for Witton he’s now joining the Bloods.

Strange that half the team seems to be heading that way and Vince is “returning” to management, no doubt some deal with the chairman behind the back of the current manager!!

Couldnt get promoted on merit. . . nearly men!

After being Chairman and manager for several seasons (and doing very well) Pace may well be happy to pass on to an ambitious manager…

I’ll just remove that knife from my back.

 1. Presumably Jim also called Nigel (a man he called his friend) to make him aware of his intention to approach Ian Kearney?

 2. Nice to hear Danny being so complimentary towards Jim, in contrast on several occasions that I spoke with Jim regards Ashton United he was quite the opposite in his comments!

 3. No need for Danny to worry about harming his reputation, he’s doing a good enough job himself!

 4. Wrong again Danny, the further he stays away from the game the better!

Jim,
You are an illegitimate fork tongued snake.
God,to think we held you in such a high esteem here at Witton.
Whatever did they teach you in school eh ?
et tu Brute.

Very well put Doc.

I have checked an online dictionary this afternoon and it would appear you are right!
