The whistle has now finally been blown after a delay while the injured ref was replaced Witton win 2.1 :clap
Finished 2 - 1 :clap
Brilliant! That’s a really good result.
Good performance by all the lads today. Josh and Danny were really dangerous down the wings and the front two of Wilson and Thompson caused all sorts of problems for the ilkeston defense. Hard to pick a mom.
UTA
Not a lot of chances in the first half, both sides cancelled each other out. Ilkeston showed that they were well organised at the back. Some great balls to Danny usually found him outnumbered. The 2nd half opened up and I thought we had the best of it and deserved the win. Powell’s finish was really neat and the winner was a good team effort that pushed the opponents into making an error. I thought our full backs performed really well and if Breeze can distribute better he can build on his 100% effort and covering and be a strong player for us. We’re on a good unbeaten run, well done to the squad on and off the field. This shows we can compete with sides near the top and once the games in hand are played we should be comfortable in the league.
Agree Ron thought Witton played the better passing football. Ilkeston tried to hit Ricketts all the time and didn’t seem to have a plan B.
I was at the other end of the ground when they had a loud shout for a penalty, compounded by the assistant ref flagging, can anyone at the other end give an opinion ?.
On the whole the Ilkeston fans were quite friendly, one or two were morons but every club has them. Again disappointed their reluctance to use our social club before the game, the only visiting fans I can think that do. Except the obvious,
Revenue from visiting supporters is a godsend for most clubs at our level.
May a suggest if we play them away next year we find a local pub prior to the game.
great win today.does anyone know if dave walker is coming back.UTA. :cheer:
I’ll go with you Andy. It was hard work getting served at their place and I didn’t particularly like their fans either!
Witton team:
Matt Cooper, Alistair Brown, Marc Joseph, Ben Harrison, Rob Bodie, Jonathan Breeze, Josh Hancock, Michael Powell, Kyle Wilson, Neville Thompson, Danny Andrews.
Subs: Jon Dawson, Matty Purcell, Michael Moseley, Anthony Gardner, Stuart Plant.
From where I was sitting, their claims for a penalty before half time were justified and the assistant did flag but was overruled by the referee.
I have watched a few games this season but not as many as I had hoped, although todays game was one of the most enjoyable. Thought we were really well organised and solid. Not sure who no. 5 was but I thought he and Ben were excellent against Ricketts who was a hand full . I thought Breeze was always looking for the ball and controlled the midfield. Nev and Kyle did really well but If we could add a bit of pace up top we’d have half a decent season.
And on another note…The Ref and linesmen were excellent today (for the first 80 minutes). The officials often get a lot of stick on here but I thought he let the game flow and got the majority of decisions correct.
I am not defo on this, but I believe he missed the last game of his loan period due to injury.
It doesn’t make sense to renew his loan period for a second stint until he has fully recovered from that injury.
Whether we intend/can afford to renew his loan is another question.
